Any Treasure Day is the 8th entry for MSXdev’18. It is a text adventure, like C.C.R. Anexo 1 El Algoritmo, the 4th entry before. This game was made a while ago, and now it is released as an engine test compatible with the Graphical Adventure Creator. The author recommends not to play this adventure using C-BIOS at this point.

Quote:

While exploring the countryside, you find a sign.
It says: “Any Treasure Day! Bring any treasures here! You will be rewarded with Fame, Money, Food! Anything!”

Are you able to find treasure here?

Oh wow, I didn't expected this to be on here this quickly! Wink

Anyway, it's a really small text adventure, in screen 0, because I wanted to see a screen 0 game. Smile

The game that ìnspired me to make Uninteresting Adventures (Jäästä+Step). A bit short, and I kind of wish it had multiple endings? But there was no trouble with guessing the correct words in Any Treasure Day.

I'm not sure what the question is? Are you suggesting I should make another?

The game is supposed to be short, because it was for MSXDev. Also, I haven't seen any text adventure games on the MSX so I don't believe it's a good idea to start with a hard game, or a large one, or one where you have to figure out which verbs to use.

But if you have any request, then I would like to hear it.

No, no. I meant I think the plot had an opportunity to have multiple different treasures to find for different endings. Or were there?

The game and the contest is done now, anyway, so I don't think there's much point in going back to adding content to it now. So, this is not a request.

As for text adventures on MSX -- I remember some MSX Basic books having text adventures in them, and it appears that at least Zork is available on MSX. As for the length -- it is indeed better to keep it short when there's no save option (that I knew of?).

I agree on the hard and large games, and you very successfully avoided the danger of the player getting stuck due to moon logic. Well done!

(I think it's a shame that playing the ZX Spectrum text adventures on ZX Spectrum Vega would require me to use that very cumbersome soft keyboard... so I don't play them.)

There's only one ending. It's a reversal to all those early adventure games where you had to put 20+ treasure items back to the starting room.

There is no save option because I don't know how to add save options, and I always play these games on emulators, so I save my games using save states.

And I nowadays play text adventures using an emulator with all my hacking/decoding tools. Some of the earlier adventure games (on the Spectrum) are literally impossible to finish otherwise.

PS. ATD is also special because it has a functional GAC interpreter (except for the graphical part). That means it's also capable to play other ZX GAC games if you know how to replace the game data.
