flyguille just released a short playable demo of his "Super Castle" project.
Requirements: MSX-DOS 2, 512 KB RAM or more, v9958 chip.

Instructions:
* Push the left/right direction one time to run, otherwise you'll walk at moderate speed
* Push the "M" key to use any secondary weapon
* Use DOWN direction to enter room doors
* Use [SHIFT] to speed up the game and cut long waits
* Use the [STOP] key to check your inventory/status

A note: Beware of the lifts if they are going down and the player box is pixel misaligned next to it. It will result in an instant game over, even when graphically, it's safe. This, because the author didn't draw a squared FAT naked player.
Apart from that, flyguille would like to inform you that the sound section is far from done, besides ofcourse that he is looking for feedback and hopes you will enjoy it!
There is also a little challenge involved; who will be the first to find the hidden message readable in the map?

If you chose the option 2 when asked for keyboard or joystick.

I played it for a bit.

I couldnt get joystick to work as well. I choose 2 for joystick in 1 player mode, and neither joystick 1 or 2 react, only keyboard.

With keyboard playing:
- I dont really like pressing UPWARDS to jump. Perhaps you could do like space = jump, M = attack, UP+M = secundairy weapon? A bit like castlevania Big smile
- I think the controls are a bit sluggish. Maybe its because I am not used to playing with keyboard, or is there some delay between button press and onscreen action?

Tested in BlueMSX.

Other remarks:
- I havent played it for that long, but it seems multiplayer is a must? like some items I cant jump high enough on my own etc. Or am I missing something/not understanding it. (I havent followed your main topic, maybe I should read it hehehe)
- The player characters look naked Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

That is because you can't facing to the left and inmediately jump diagonal right, the player must turn facing to the right and gain speed for jumping far diagonal to the right, it is a realistic control. As it can't do the diagonal right, it ends jumping just upwards.

Some platforms are not accesibles without shoes, it is part of the puzzle, some times you needs to pickup something in order to do others parts of the map, falling in the first underground area without shoes is a bad idea. The same for wasting the yellow key in the ground level yellow door. Wink

Maybe the "learning curve" starts from too high!.

It is weird that joystick don't work, I tested it in OpenMsx and it worked.... maybe is time to re-test it.

confirmed, in OpenMSX, select player 1 and then option 2 , and use joystick port 1, it works just fine.

I had to change the configuration of OpenMSX from Mouse to joystick1 for port1.

I didn't tested in real hardware as it is being developed at workplace.

flyguille: IMHO games in which you can make fatal mistakes are too unforgiving... you should be able to fix your mistakes without starting all over. Only having to do a little bit again is not bad, but it shouldn't be too much.

Yes, the idea is to support "start from certain checkpoints", checkpoints where saving status to disk will be a must have.

The revival pill is suppose to do that, the big problem, is how to handle if in multiplayer.... bring back the three players if one dies? there is no other way, or wait the three players dies and program a CONTINUE option to go back to the checkpoint?.

Realism seems not to be a theme in this game.

Tested in BlueMSX.

You need also to select Joystick in the blueMSX Input editor.

Sorry my bad, it was blueMSX not recognizing the dpad (POV hat) of my ps4 joypad (installed as a "fake" / virtual xbox360 controller with ds4windows). I fixed it by mapping the dpad of my ps4 joypad to the virtual xbox360-controller's buttons (x,y and r l bumper (the trigger seems not recognized either by bluemsx) and then mapping the buttons to bluemsx's p1 joypad's dpad

But still, it seem selecting joystick does not always work, I dont know why, and i tried it 15 times or so

Games feel a bit more responsive though, I guess I dont like playing with keyboard Big smile
I do miss a jump button.

that character is not for when you are naked without any protection & pow-ups, but is there for testing purposes.
