For the last couple of days Hydragon has been working on his website CheatMSX, adding updates, fixes and making it fully html5/css3 validated.

The following updates were done:

  • An error with the encoding of urls are fixed, so all downloads are fixed and available again.
  • Meta-tags were renewed for social media.
  • The Online Password Generators section has gotten a make-over: The scripts were reworked, the generators themselves have gotten a visual overhaul and are now listed in searches when available.

Besides these fixes, there was also content and updates added to the the cheats and maps section. First of all 2 new cheats were added for BitVision games released in 2016, contributed by Fernando Garcia (BitVision):

Also Benoît Delvaux aka mars2000you contributed several new maps:

While the index validates, several of the sub-pages, such as the cheats listing, and the e.g. INTRUDER cheats still have errors though. ;-)
Nevertheless, good to see it's still being maintained.

Including the actual game titles in the URLs would make them a bit more human-readable though. :)

Thanks Fixato for the feedback, wanted indeed to include some "false" information in the url, reason I call it false is because it doens't get used anyway, since the output is based on the game id.
But for that I would have to do some more fiddling with the htaccess file, it's on my todo-list, as I am also developing in the background a responsive layout, design would be a more simplistic, but at least it would be more readable on tablets and modern phones, but those are the plans for the near future for 3.0.

What errors did you discover by the way, since I'm curious what you used, to find these? Would love to see some more information about these, to get them resolved eventually as well. mail contact is appreciated ;)
( if it's about the meta data in the header, that's basically since I was doing some fiddling last night on the header and has been removed as we speak. )

@Hydragon: having a descriptive URL (pref. matching your page title & main heading) is also a good thing in regard to search engines.. Wink

Thanks @ren, that's indeed what Fixato also brought up. The website is a homebrew project and i was thinking of building the url like "/page/cheats/id/3989/company/bit-vision/game/codename-intruder.html"
Allready edited .htaccess so this build is allowed, now I need to look into putting the correct data in url's, that's a thing for later.

Wow, that's perhaps a bit too much..

I'd suggest something like /cheats/3989/codename-intruder-2016-bitvision.html (name-year-company).
I don't think there's a need to create such nested URLs, and will probably do more harm than good (unless e.g. your using something like /cheats/bitvision/codename-intruder, where /bitvision has an 'directory' index showing all the cheats for that 'company').

Leave out the /id, /company & /game bits, no need.
+ if you can, get rid of /page (everywhere)

Anyway good luck developing Wink
I've been busy with something for a long time (though I ceased my efforts ATM), starting over and over again, switching stacks, never completing something, awesome! Tongue Evil

(Also (a little well meant critique): that the site validates as HTML(5) doesn't mean much if there's no semantic content at all by wrapping everything inside tables.. (But perhaps you're picking that up whilst working on the responsive version?))

@ren: Thanks for the feedback
got it now working, made a tryout section in the left block of latest cheat, f.e: http://cheatmsx.com/cheats/3989/bit-vision-2016-codename-int...
This does actually work now. Now i need to implement it every where in teh website, which will take some time, but the old structure is also still functional, so there is no rush.

update: new linkstructure is ready. Links in current newspost should still work, since a automatic redirect should do the trick.
