*** The post below is an April Fools joke, but there is some truth in it. There is a cassette image hidden in MGS5 Ground Zeroes and it does contain a valid header (VOL2). Find out more here ***

A few days ago this forum topic revealed there was a tape hidden in the newly released Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The noise on this tape was quickly recognized as (possible) MSX code and although the code has not been cracked so far (please help out!) apart from the header 'VOL2' when trying to CLOAD the tape we can now reveal this is not the only tape hidden in Ground Zeroes.

In our inbox we found a recording of another hidden classified tape containing, upon loading, the header 'VOL1'. When loaded the following MSX-BASIC listing is loaded into memory:

10 FORI=0TO42:READA:A$=A$+CHR$(A-101):NEXTI:PRINTA$
20 DATA 170,211,201,202,215,216,133,181,215,212,207,202,200,217,133,217
30 DATA 212,133,199,202,133,215,202,209,202,198,216,202,201,133,202,198
40 DATA 215,209,222,133,151,149,150,154,147,147,147

When running the listing a clear message is displayed on-screen: Enders Project to be released early 2015...

It seems like the long awaited Zone of the Enders sequel is finally going to happen after all! Question remains what the hidden message is (if any) in the VOL2 classified file. SD-Snatcher for next-gen perhaps?

Wow very cool stuff.. thanks for reporting/posting!

I was following that vol2 topic with interest but I didn't expected anything cool to come out of it. Now I'm very curious about the content of the VOL2 file Wink

Woah, nice find!

Should send a link to this post to Kotaku or something Smile.

Wait… April first? It’s a trap! I hate this day. I don’t know what to believe. MCCM always got me. With their MSX notebooks.

Latok. I hate to admit it but I actually submitted this as a tip to Kotaku before I realised what date it was. You may laugh at me now Smile.

For what it's worth, there was a little bit of fuzz on Twitter as well today.

I think it was one of the better April Fools jokes we ever did, compliments to Latok for cooking it all up indeed. And hopefully it drew a bit of attention to the *real* VOL2 tape image. Unfortunately we didn't have the time to work the Oculus Rift one out to make it a tad more credible.

Older April Fools jokes on MRC that I quite enjoyed:

Btw I just found this nice revisit of the MCCM notebook april fool’s (Dutch) by Frank Druijf. I was so excited about it that I called him you know! Fell for it completely :).

I still have my MSX notebook btw!
