While nf_ban, the editor of Gigamix, apologizes for not reporting about MSX World 2005 himself, he did put up 9 new links to other websites which do report about it. In random order:

  • Excel Game Weekly, Blog of Mr. Chikada
Small photo-report with comments and additionally more information about MSeXcel2005.
  • My Diary 2nd Plus
Textual report on the fair which also mentions the wonders of FudeBrowZer.
  • Wiz' Blog
Interesting report on Nishi's lecture and the presentation of the OneChipMSX. Interesting to read is that Kazuhiko Nishi interrupted the OneChipMSX presentation when the speaker announced that pre-orders should exceed 5.000 copies to make production possible. Nishi said he would buy 5.000 copies himself if needed! The MSX Resource Center is also mentioned. Because the author of this report came 3rd place in the MuSiXMas Challenge, our own Snout stopped by his booth.
  • SeeSaa's Digital Camera Photoshoots
Photoreport on the fair including pictures of the OneChipMSX, ESE Hardware products and more.
  • IT Media Mobile report
Extensive fair report focussing mainly on the OneChipMSX and MSXPLAYer for mobile phones.
  • 'The World you should not know' report
Textual summary of Nishi's lecture and the presentation of the OneChipMSX. Also a personal opinion of the author can be read in the article.
  • Inertia's report
Another summary of both Nishi's lecture and the OneChipMSX presentation. This summary features photographs.
  • 4gamer.net's report
Report on the MSXPLAYer symposium by ASCII, Reakosys and Bazix. It summarizes the presentations and shows some cool pictures of the presentations. I'm not sure, but I think we know that guy standing below the big blue screen showing a Japanese Frantic....
  • Tuesday's Garbage report
And last but not least another summary of Nishi's lecture. Also containing some pictures of that lecture.

I don't know if the One Chip MSX is going to be expensive, but I'll will buy one for sure. It looks cool: http://image.itmedia.co.jp/l/im/mobile/articles/0505/09/l_si_msx-03.jpg

If more than 3000 Game Readers were preordered (a quite limited device imho), I think that 5000 One Chips can easily be sold.

The projected sale price of the One Chip MSX is 19800 yen, about 155 euro's. I'm not sure if the localized version Bazix is more and more likely going to be at the same price, as it needs some localization, but we're going to try. The concept vision screenshots are indeed 4 projected designs for the one chip MSX. There were 2 more concept vision sheets, all of which will be published on the MRC as soon as I return from Japan! i just readed that japaneze blog... and it comments that somebody interrupts the reading saying "lies you... we needs to sell 10.000 unit" not 5000.

But as the text translated is very confused for me, i realy don't knows what finaly is , if 5000 or 10000

if it is 10000 there isn't too much ppl in these comunity, assuming that each one buy one... at 155 euros plus shipment?

About the 5,000/10,000 matter: ASCII have to sell at least 5,000 1CMs, but expect to sell at least 10,000.

About the MSX1/MSX2 matter: the 1CM currently is not fully MSX2 compatible, but it is fully MSX1 compatible. However, partial MSX2 compatibility has been accomplished already,

...with these amounts, ASCII is also counting on the FPGA community, as they can get a complete FPGA package including the most important I/O and A/V connections...

I personally think this is way expensive for what it is (at least from what Ikeda describes on his email) - an msx1 machine with a/v output (MONO audio output!) - and "things for future expansions" aka USB, VGA - for the same price we can get (at least here in Brazil) a PS2/Gamecube/XBox.

But we cant blame ASCII/MSX Association for the price, FPGAs are expensive after all.

Unfortunaly for us brazilians, this msx is way to expensive (a used msx1 can be bought for something like $25, and a MSX2 for $80; shipping costs and government taxes doesn help either).

If the one chip was at least an MSX2, with USB and VGA ready to be used, then it would be worth it (again, by brazilian standards, maybe for you guys in europe its different since euro is much more valueable then brazilian real, and shipping from japan is less expensive)

@edwin: Sunrise has that board for quite some time already and it's running on each MSX fair from the moment they have it.

@BiFi - the board Sunrise are demonstrating is a lot older than the new version of MSXA, which has gone to a wide range of improvements. Although the boards have many similarities, they are not completely the same at all... Wink

Well the one I have is a little cheaper. Better configuration then you get,..
Nevertheless indeed differences, but that are not many as it regards the working part. Different ram, usb , second slot.

Snout I hope you had your moonsound with you to test ...
