Metal Gear - the movie?

After the unexpected success of Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear fans have been anxiously anticipating a movie based on the game. With games inspiring movies such as Mortal Kombat and Final Fantasy this would indeed not be totally impossible. It is known for a fact that several film producers were eager to release a Metal Gear movie in the past, and with Sony TriStar turning Konami's horror game Silent Hill into a huge success, all ingredients appeared to be available, but so far Hideo Kojima had not shown the intention to make a feature film out of the game (which - like Snatcher - on its turn, was based on several movies itself), although the occasional rumor (like this one from our very own MSX forum in 2002) would pop up.

Now, during E3 2006, Konami and Kojima Productions announced they are now seriously considering to let a film company film a movie remake of the highly succesful game series, which first started on MSX in 1987. At the moment, no information is available on what the plot will be like, who will produce the film, which actors will star in it, let alone when it will be released (and whether or not there will be any MSX action in it ;)), but we at the MRC are awaiting your reactions and suggestions, and will be reporting about the progress of this movie in the future.

I'd go for some unexpected ones... Steve Buscemi would be one hell of a bad guy (well, Steve Buscemi would be one hell of an anything if you ask me), and as a director Robert Rodriguez would make sure for some over-excessive special effects. As for Snake? Hmmm... tough one... no suggestions yet. Of course, it would be amazing if they'd get Sean Connery to play Big Boss ^_^ "sThisss isss operation intrude..." Tongue

nooooooo, not Steve! That guy should visit a dentist some day, he really shouldn't play a action hero! He was funny in Armageddon, but just because of that he looked unrealistic in Con Air.. Tongue

On Stallone: the music of Solid Snake was quite inspired by the Rambo2-score from Jerry Goldsmith.. do the math. ^_^

Keep in mind that movies from games have always been a disaster (Mario Bros, Street Fighter,...). I wouldn't expect much. I prefer games from movies: remember Robocop, Batman, Ninja Turtles,... Wink

saeba: Michael Bay != Michael Biehn

(Bay is a director, who did stuff like The Rock, Armageddon etc.)
