Konami have just released two new Japanese trailers for the upcoming Nintendo Gamecube game 'Metal Gear Sold: The Twin Snakes". This game is a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid game, released for Sony Playstation in 1998. Of course, the graphics and gameplay were improved, adding quite some elements from Metal Gear Solid 2. After a cool trailer at the Tokyo Gameshow, Konami have now released two new trailers on the Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakers website. The first trailer lasts no less than 27 minutes, while the second takes 14 minutes of your time.
The roots of the succesful Metal Gear series lie in the MSX Computer system. In 1987, Konami released Metal Gear, the worlds first Tactical Espionage Game, for MSX. It turned out to be a huge success. The game was also released on Commodore 64. A different game with the same title and concept was released on Nintendo's Entertainment System (NES), followed by the action game Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge. However, the great mind behind the Metal Gear (and Snatcher) series, Hideo Kojima, had nothing to do with the Nintendo versions of the game. He continued working on Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which was released exclusively for the MSX Computer System in 1990 by Konami.
In 1998 the third part in the Metal Gear saga: Metal Gear Solid was released for Sony Playstation. With this, an unstoppable hype started, resulting in the release of Metal Gear 2: Sons of Liberty for Sony Playstation 2 (later released on PC and Microsoft Xbox as well) and two new, upcoming games: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for Sony Playstation 2 (you can check out a trailer of this game here) and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for Nintendo Gamecube, which will both be released in 2004.
Konami has the tendency to keep referring to the MSX versions of Metal Gear in manuals, interviews and game guides. Recently, a petition started to get these games re-released on modern game-consoles. Perhaps, one day, Konami will do an official remake of Hideo Kojima's masterpiece SD-Snatcher, voted the best MSX2 game ever as well?
