Four months have passed since RELEVO Videogames released Invasion of the Zombie Monsters at RetroMadrid 2010. The scrolling B-movie-style arcade shooter gathered the attention of the visitors for its fast gameplay, great visuals and music, featuring the classic 8 BIT composer Gominolas in the game development team. Now, the game has become publicly available for download, both the MSX version and the ZX Spectrum one.

If you still want a physical copy of the game, the well presented cartridge is for sale at Matra Computer Automations for just 19,95 euro.

Many thanks!

About the game... Very good graphics, excellent music (I am quite pleased that Gominolas did not only did the music, but also that he didn't lose his PSG skills). A very impressive game for it's 32 Kbytes. Big smile

@manuel: He attended RetroMadrid '09 with a lecture. We were there launching La Corona Encantada, so Gominolas went to check our booth with the game, posters, Azpiri signing games and books, etc and after testing the game, and after a nice talking with me, I told him if he will like to be into the crew of our next game, and he agreed. That simple ;-)

RELEVO, you are spoiling us. Smile

Everything about this game is excellent. The style, the design..

I love the speed which luckily comes with a perfect response of the main character upon player input.
Great playability there. Though it plays like a charm, it's actually a little bit hard, too, but it's because of the enemy patterns. It has been proven that things can be more worse than any flying medusa head. Big smile

I won't look at the playthroughs just yet because I like to be surprised. Wink

Totally agree with manuel, this is ea-si-ly one of the best MSX games from the past years!
Thank you very much!

I hope you will be there with MSXdev '10, too. Could you surprise even more? Smile

the game is not hard. this is the NORMAL difficulty of the 80s. go play shadow of the beast or ghostn goblins if you think this is hard.

One thing I'd (personally) change in a next game: use less dithering in tiles. It is a style, but I prefer a more solid style (less ZX Spectrum, more Konami). It doesn't look bad, of course, but I just prefer the 'solid' Konami style of tiles more. For the rest, the graphics are just awesome. Especially the animations of the player character I enjoyed Smile

Just checked the game and I have to say it is amazing! Fast gameplay, nice graphics and sound, and it is only 32 kb! I can only imagine if it was a megarom using SCC or FM sound. It is proven now that not only "that game" is possible to do in MSX1 with good speed and graphics, but also all the others that have the same style (platformers like Shinobi and others). Thanks for sharing this with us. Smile

Really a great game.

I've bought the cartridge and recieved it today. No emulator beats playing on a real msx. Romloaders and flashroms are cheaper but I really like the box and manual. But I'm glad it is also available for free. So I can enjoy playing it on my GBA.

Thanx Cool

@manuel: I know what you mean about less dithered gfx... the thing is I wanted darker scenarios here. But I promise next one will be konami-style coloured, deal? Wink. And about main char animation, it was particulary tricky to design all pattern-based frames for it, glad you like them graphics.

Very slick! This ranks as one of the higher quality games I have seen on MSX1. Also quite difficult. For me anyway. But I will beat that first level! Tongue
