With a bit more than a day before the deadline of the Tenliner Challenge we received entry 16 in the challenge: Bubble Dream. Bubble Dream is a game for MSX2 or higher, made by Spanish MSX user Kotai and graphics artist PixelsMil. The game is a Super Pang type game, where you have to the shoot bubbles to clear a level.

The game makes extensive use of the media file for all the in-game graphics, title screen and ending screen, and attentive viewers might have already spotted the timelapse video in our Youtube bar earlier this week. The Bubble Dreams download comes in a ROM and a disk image, and for the best experience X-BASIC (included in the download) or an MSX turbo R is highly recommended.

Nice entry ! Smile

A precision is missing in the text file : the ROM mapper is ASCII8 (by default, as the ROM is not yet in the database, blueMSX autodetects ASCII16 and fails to launch the ROM version).

OpenMSX detects it correct.
Seems blueMSX is unable to detect it correctly......

Amazing! Especially if you consider it's only 10 lines of BASIC and a media file!

I bow my head in shame, because

1) I was unable to finish my own game in time, and
2) It didn't look quite as astonishing as Bubble Dream anyway

I'm @ work right now, but I'll check this game out when I'm home (already had a look at the pictures, it looks astonishing).

Well, you still have about 12 hours left to send in your entry!

Thank you for the reminder, but I'm afraid I still won't make it in time. I'll finish the game anyway and post it for download when it's finished, though. I'm amazed at the skills of everyone in this contest. Never thought the competition would be so fierce!

Well done, everybody!

Very impressive contribution. Smart use of the media-file Smile saving two screen 5 images in one file.
I would consider this to be a turbo-R only contribution, as it is quite slow on lower systems.

I make it think in X-BASIC or KUN-BASIC on MSX2 computers.
I not test in Turbo-R without X-BASIC but I think its very slow

Eres todo un maestro programando KOTAI.

Ahí tenéis un video desde mi MSX TURBO R, en X-BASIC y con la versión DSK. Va como la seda:

Here it’s a video of the game, running in a original TURBO R, in X-BASIC and .DSK version:

Kotai

I gave it a quick test in openMSX with a turbo R and without X-BASIC and the speed was actually pretty ok.
