SCC Musixx

van MSX Resource Center op 17-12-2011, 10:59

This is Typhoon-soft's "SCC MusiXX" music tracker. It includes the tracker "musixx-program" and the instrument "preset-editor". It comes with a few example music files too. Originally released in 1990.

There are a few download versions here:
- The original disk (which is copy protected) [atm this disk is missing..]
- The original disk with a fix for SCC detection *1 ("Typhoon-SCCMusixx1.0 [disk][WithSccDetectionFix].DSK")
- The binary files for the program and the editor *2 ("Typhoon-SCCMusixx1.0 [files][WithSccDetectionFix].rar")

*1) 20170105 - larsthe18th has created a patch for the SCC Musixx Editor. On the original disk, SCC of the Flashrom SD isn't detected correctly. This has been fixed in this patched disk. It now detects the following SCC cards:
◾Flashrom SD
◾Flashrom SCC
◾Flashrom SCC+
◾Konami SD-Snatcher Sound Cartridge
◾Konami Snatcher Sound Cartridge
◾Konami SCC game cards with a disabled ROM

Please note that the SCC card must be located in a primary slot and that you have to hold "S" key while booting the disk image from the Flashrom SD.

*2) 20070522 - Ro, aka Shadow, has ripped both the musixx-program and preset-editor from the disk as two binary files. Handy for harddisk owners.

Ok. Just "cracked" Scc-Musixx into 2 BIN files. One for the editor, one for the program. Just like protracker
It's a bit of a bummer 'cuz, again like PT, the progs don't have an "exit" option. So, whatta ya need the bin files for... hmm, dunno if they work on HD. Didn't test that much(!) Just ripped, checked and it worked. No extensive testing.

oh, I removed the "selection" screen since you've got them 2 bins to start whatever part ye want Wink

I'll upload'm somewhere later..

Do you still happen to have this binary version somewhere? Smile

Ah, I managed to get the right files and info and created KSS files from the songs. Cool

Listen here! Chrome only...

LOL... SCC-Musixx is a tracker for the SCC Smile Not a compilation of Konami Tracks Smile
I was wondering if Ro still has the binary files of SCC-Musixx Smile

True, this was not exactly what you said. Smile However if you download scc-musixx disks there are a lot of sng files on them, so that triggered me to try to make kss files from them. Which was not that hard with the tools others created. Kss got started as a format for Konami tracks, but it's a lot more now, it can even play Pumpkin Adventure 3 Moonsound music (with some glitches I must confess, the other chips are perfect afaik)!

Is this what you're looking for? Link.

Well... It's not exactly what I am looking for (Ro probably has 2 nice .BIN files somewhere lying around), but the version you link to is a non-copy-protected version, so I can use this one as well for my purpose. Thanks! Smile Smile

Updated the SCC-Musixx on my site with this version. Made a save-state with the SCC(i) already working and added a bunch of SCC-Musixx tracks to the image.

Some nice tracks there, especially those from BDD!

Turned out, the "original" .dsk version that was uploaded here, was not Typhoon's Scc-Musixx, but Fuzzy Logic's Scc-Music-Disc. I removed this file and uploaded the (scc patched) .disk and binary files. have fun,

I just tried the bin files on my turbo-r but no sound with the megaflashrom.
I did hold the "S" on startup.
Any pointers ?

OK, I am 10 years late with my answer, but still: You can exit PT by using CTRL-STOP. Normally this would bring you back to the menu on the original disk. But the file-version will bring you back to basic with a Syntax Error. But you can easily load the Editor (or anything else) from there.
Try it: http://www.file-hunter.com/MSX/ProTracker.html
CTRL-STOP is CTRL-F9 in WebMSX.

You are so right of course... You can see it from 02:55
Hmmm, supplying the time-stamp doesn't work right here on the forum :)

It's better to open a link in a new tab, so you can also see the eventual comments on YouTube

Here a few tips for this demo disk:

* additionnal special screen between 20 December and 1st January
* some tips to quit the "syntax error" screen :
color - close - end - exit - files - help (or F1) - load - list (or F4) - mr feet - next - open - run - shit - spertie - stop - the pretender
* useful keys in the 3D part :
cursors, INS, DEL, HOME , SELECT, RETURN

To make this work is a bit of a pain,
- Put the 2 BIN files in a .DSK file with a DiskManager
- Flash the .DSK file on the flashrom with opfxsd /d1....
- Reboot while holding S key, then run BIN file
Now it wil find the SCC, because it is now in a primary slot.

Well, thats a BIG work around.
I did use the DSK version that way and it works great.
Only the selection of the files is a bit of a pain because there are only drive a: and b:
But i used my slot 2 of the mfrsd for that purpose.
Now i am thinking of flashing a dsk with the music files on /d2. should work to i think.

heh, I don't even have an msx anymore for 10 years, OpenMSX is actually better than any real MSX I've ever had...
the nms8250 was my favorite model but they were usually far from flawless.... sound issues, especially.
