Wanted: FM-PAC

Hi,

I've been searching this Pana Amusent cartridge for a some time without luck. So, if anyone would like to sell me one with reasonable price, I would be grateful to buy it. It's just so boring with PSG only.

Could someone help me with my recent bought fm-pack?

How do I actually use this cartridge? I tried to plug it in and tested few games (Aleste 2 and Runemaster), but there was no music at all, just the sound effects could be heard. So, how do I get the music to work?

There is a switch on the top (or was side..?) of the case. It's to change volume (low, medium, loud). Anyway, at some MSX models, the internal mixer causes the volume to be kinda low respect internal PSG. Specially with some Philips, with my 8250 FM sounds exactly like crap (but you can hear it if it's set to maximum volume)

To make test, type call FMPAC from Basic. This way it starts the internal software, that includes some Musics.

NOTE: That works for Panasonic's FM-PAC, probably not with the PAK clones ...

The PAK clone has a "call FMPAK" But dont use this call if the FM-PAK is in a sub-slot, it will hang.

I started the CALL FMPAC command and the program started, but no music could be heard.
There's just a little ticking sound when I search through the options. I also tried to adjust the
switch to different options but without any result.

Btw. My computer is Philips VG-8235 / 00

VG8235 / 00 should be working just fine. No mixer problems in that machine. Perhaps you can drop this post at the hardware section to draw the attention the hardware masters if you suspect that the cartridge/msx/combination of both to be misbehaving for some reason.

Yes, maybe I should post it also there. I now tested the cartridge with my SVI-728 also, and no music could be heard on it too. Just only the same ticking sound when I press the menus (and only the sound effects of shooting on MSX2 on Aleste etc.). Do any of the tv's have any issues with these cartridges? I have LG lcd tv. All the other stuff from MSX is working just fine with it, f. ex. my newly bought Megaflashrom scc+ worked fine with Sd Snatcher when tested.

Has nothing to do with the TV. Sounds like a bad cart. The fact that SCC+ works just fine in combo with PSG indicates there is something wrong with the cart. Drop a post at HW so that the tech people can look further into it.

Thank you for your tips (unfortunately my electrical knowledge isn't so good that I'll know how to repair those)! Gladly, the seller was so good natured human being, that he promised to send me another Fm-Pac and I'll send him the other one for him to check it out.
