Metal Gear Solid series gets HD remakes

During the E3 Expo, fans of Hideo Kojima's legendary Metal Gear series were excited to hear that three installments of the Metal Gear Solid series are to get a high definition remake for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Strangely enough, the very first Metal Gear Solid is not among them, but Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker are. At the moment, Konami have only revealed some footage of the HD version of Peace Walker.

Strange enough, the very first Metal Gear Solid is not among them,

Perhaps something to do with the Gamecube release and rights Nintendo demanded?

Could be, but that release is quite ancient. I doubt Konami agreed to a more-than-7-year-exclusivity for that one.

Does that mean the msx2 versions included in the mgs3 version is also included on this one? Or isnt't this in HD available? Wink

It's because it will be too much work to make cool graphics for mgs1. The other ones they will just change de resolution, apply some filters and call it a remake. Kojima is a winner. Like Charlie Sheen. Maybe greater.

So far, from the 'new generation', I have only played Metal Gear Solid 2.
There is so much I recognized from the original MSX versions.
I can't wait to play the first one.
For me the graphics are already good enough. I don't need more.
Gameplay was pretty good; way too much talking and blah blah cinema, but the solid (!) story made up for it.

the Cube version of MGS was co-developed with Nintendo and Retro Studios, AFAIK, so I think there are problems with the rights for that version.
They probably didn't include MGS1 because it looks dated compared to the others, and I wouldn't be surprised if all other three (and Zone of the Enders 1 & 2, which are also getting the HD treatment) run on the same engine.

As my console of choice for the current generation is a 360, I'm glad I'll finally get to play Peace Walker. MGS Rising might be interesting, but it appears it's going to be very different from all the other games, focusing on sword action instead of stealth (who knows, it might play a bit like the Ninja levels in MGS Integral or some of the last bits of MGS2)

Totally came back on my opinion. Smile I actually have this HD collection now. Great stuff.
