Hi,
Maggoo have you thought make some scans of the book The MSX standard: The new computers',for the community ?
I would be very interested to read this book.
Its coming soon
The other book written by Robert Chapman Wood, "MSX and the coming revolution in Consumer Electronics", can already be downloaded at
http://www.abyssmsx.com/MSX%20and%20the%20Coming%20Revolutio...
It' a plain scan so far (so kinda large file), but I'm busy converting it to a proper OCR'ed PDF.
Great ! Thank you
Plain scan is better than nothing.
Let me know for the other book. Thank you
This is an amazing read, to see where MSX stood in the 1980s. I don't know how other platforms were seen at the time, but to see the scaffolding of internet and e-commerce in an article directly related to MSX puts quite a big smile on my face.
Yes, to see that somehow, the MSX group was thinking of those technologies when designing the MSX is very interesting...
Some other very interesting information (I thought)
Pages 17/20/21: The fact that Zenith Corp and RCA Corp were considering adopting the MSX. This could have made a big difference if launched in the US.
Page 40/41: Mentions of a Japanese designed custom CPU compatible with the Z80.... sounds very much like the R800 to me, which mean it would have been "planned" as early as 1984/1985. Wonder why they waited so long to materialize that plan.
Thanks for an excellent contribution with a very interesting reading.
Tip: Scanning the pages (except the covers), in Black and White (line art) would have kept the size down. Resolution of 300 dpi good is enough for text.
Then you could also do an OCR with a good result, keeping a good contrast.
and don't save in jpeg format (destructive). Use non-destructive like TIFF and PNG.
Finally found the time to scan the other book, "The MSX Standard - The New Computer". Another very interesting read.
The download is a bit large as I haven't had a chance to optimize the PDF but anyhow, here it is:
http://abyssmsx.com/The%20MSX%20Standard%20-%20The%20New%20C...
BTW, this can be added to the Download section of MSX.ORG. I contacted its Author, Robert Chapman Wood, and he gave his permission to distribute it freely.
I just received a summary of the history of the MSX DOS Development directly from the original MSX-DOS (and MS DOS) Developer, Tim Peterson. Tim was kind enough to answer questions and share his memories and many historical details. The information has been updated into the MSX.org WIKI.
Enjoy the reading:
Maggoo, is it possible to put this one back http://www.abyssmsx.com/MSX%20and%20the%20Coming%20Revolutio... ? I would like to check it :)
