do they have a website? I have this thing against communicating with a person behind only an e-mail address.

I have a thing against buying IC's without knowing their origin, you don't wan't to know how much time it's taking before you know that you have actually bought a counterfeit device Sad
Not that i'm applying that the above devices are counterfeit.

Bought 41464's from ebay china and I got them. Too bad they didn't send me the same ones as on the photo. These are the in line version while I wanted the DIP's this is just a small example that sometimes it can turn out crap.

Then on the other hand. I ordered 2 V9958's from China with free shipping and the parts are indeed the originals and they work like a charm.

Its always a gamble. Its either money and time lost or a big gain for a low price.

That's the crux of the matter: it's okay to gamble IF you have an easy way to test parts thoroughly, and failure isn't a problem.

Cheap parts for repairs would be such a case, and those V9958 (or 4464's) nice examples. Another case is chip collectors that don't care much about original or not, but just want a nice looking specimen in hands.

Lacking an easy test option, it's just not worth the possible hassle / frustration.

Not if you're starting a new project, the price difference isn't worth the time lost & your project built around something that doesn't work like genuine IC (if you got fake parts). Not when buying in bulk for (semi-?)professional use, the cost savings are lost when customers start returning failed equipment.

So cheap eBay stuff from China looks attractive, but you have to know what you're doing.

I know exactly what you mean Retrotechie.

I had this with quadrant multiplier chips. They where fakes for very cheap and they did what they where made for. However the signal to noise ratio was unbearable. I ended up buying the originals finding out I lost more money on the way then just buying the originals anyway not to mention the huge headaches on finding out where all that white noise was coming from.
