I have checked on my HB-F1XDJ and I can reproduce the problem.
It seems there is some kind of incompatibility of Nextor/EMUFILE with that model and/or memory configuration.

Yes, there's a memory issue with Aleste 2. When you have several RAM slots, the game might identify a RAM slot different from the DOS RAM slot. This leads to crash / reset. I have a patch for it somewhere (it's just using F342H instead of searching for RAM slot), let me check... It's maybe also available on the net. There are some other Compile games that have the same issue.

Here are the patches I made:
Aleste2Patches.zip
To be applied on the original disk images.

Note: those patches are also translating the messages asking you to change game / demo disks, so that you don't have the gargabed occidental characters instead of japanese ones.

The "Aleste 2 Demo Disk Difficulty Level Fix.ips" patch fixes a copy-protection (that sets the game on super-hard difficulty if detected as a non-original).

Let me know if that works, I have not tested those patches extensively.

GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS:

Good: the patches seem to work. (english instead of japanese i havent experienced the glitch where it is on super hard mode, but it didnt seem to break the game or anything (i have a japanese machine so it, but it is nice to be able to understand it haha))
HOWEVER

Bad: the fd1,fd2,fd3 patched roms didnt work with nextor and NEXT_DSK.dat they did work with /Dx option so it is definitely something with nextor and the MFR compatibility with this model HB-F1XDJ . NO WORRIES THOUGH i have used FDLOAD and make the 3 disks on actual 2DD diskettes and they work fine. it is just one of those situations. Again I just wanted to make sure I wasnt insane! Thank you all so much for your help. i will keep an eye out for any software updates that may address issues like this. but it is game on over here! Take care.

Probably an incompatibility with the firmware of this machine in slot 0-3 : MSX-JE with Halnote mapper, for which you need a system disk, only provided with the Sony HB-F1XV.

Maybe you can give a try at SofaRunIt to launch DSK images (you have to concatenate the images into a single file before, let me know if you don't know how to do that). You can get that tool here: http://lhalter.free.fr/mgr/

i will give the concatenate a try with sofarunit

im going to do this unless you tell me to do something else (linux)

$ cat DISK1.DSK DISK2.DSK DISK3.DSK > ALESTE2.DSK

and then run that with sofarunit

Yes, Linux style, that should work (files are treated as binary by "cat" command IIRC).

nope. didnt work. i tried the patched one, and the un-patched. they both do exactly the same thing. caps flashes like it is loading and then it stops and the screen stays blank. bummer!
