Or not pay in installments and just save up a little Smile. Seems like the sensible thing to do.

MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD is a great cartridge, but indeed if you’ve got an MSX with diskdrive, there’s no need for it at all… I’ve used the MSX for many years using floppy disks Smile. Though if you have some spare money in the future, I can definitely recommend the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD of course.

The build-your-own-msx, I would really not even attempt that without a great amount of electronics knowledge. Same goes for trying to upgrade an MSX1 to MSX2.

I'm afraid I find that I can't save up any money at all.

I'm thinking of trying to build some very simple computer projects based round the Z80 CPU, such as the most simple computer possible, and a CP/M computer, as well as a clone of the Sinclair ZX80 listed on a site which has just run out of bandwidth, but I should be able to view it later. This site is http://searle.hostei.com/grant/ . The owner of the site is called Grant and he lives in Wales, UK. It lists lots of classic electronics kits and a collection of classic computers.

I've just had a message from a user of these forums offering to help find me an MSX computer of the type I specify. I told him I want an MSX2 with a separate keyboard. He's been a member here for a long time, but I think that before I pay him, he'll have to post on here that he's agreed to sell me an MSX2 computer, otherwise it could be a con. He lives in the Netherlands. I suppose that some people on here know him.

Eeeh… dude, someone gives you a helping hand and you thank him for it by publicly doubting his sincerity? Not the smartest move. If it were me I’d tell you to suck it. Second time you publicly discuss a person in this thread in such a context, please have some restraint. It’s not nice.

Now for the constructive part of my message:

I wouldn’t assume any con unless you’ve got indication that it is. I’ve never had a bad experience with any MSX trade, and the recent Sunrise affair aside I can’t remember hearing any story about conning. If you want to have some extra certainty, just pay with Paypal, it has good buyers protection and you can revoke the payment if you don’t receive the product that you paid for.

I haven't mentioned the name of whoever made this offer to me, but obviously it's not a very good idea to buy something from someone I don't know, who doesn't run a company and it's not on eBay or another auction site either. I have to be careful about this.

As for Bas, there was a problem with emails not getting through to him. Someone in this topic mentioned it, so after not getting a reply for over a week, I had to mention it as well. Later on, I sent another email to Bas and soon got a reply, but this reply included an offer I wasn't expecting, for an 8245 MSX2 I'd never heard of, and it cost more than I thought it would, so I was disappointed, although the spec is the same as the 8250 MSX2 computer I wanted. Also, at the same time as I got this offer, his website said the 8245 was out of stock, and it still says that, so I don't know what to do. From the pics of his storage room on the site, it looks like about 80-90% of his computers have the configuration I want. I'm satisfied that Bas is reliable and has sold lots of MSX2 computers to people on this site, as well as appearing at MSX fairs that I've never been to.

I'm afraid I haven't heard of "the recent Sunrise affair", because I don't read all the posts on this forum. What is it about?

Are you serious? You’re asking for that person to post here, as soon as he does we know who you were talking about.

And whether or not you name the person is kind of irrelevant. As I said if I were offering to help you and the sincerity of that offer would not only be doubted but publicly discussed, I would kindly tell you to shove it. But maybe this person is kinder than me. I hope it works out well for you.

If you want to have some reassurance dealing with someone you don’t know, just pay with Paypal. You can revoke the payment within 45 days if the goods aren’t delivered. That’s a much better way than inquiring about individuals.

Too big a topic and too off-topic to discuss here, just search the forum.

Do you want a MSX2 or not? Stop being in doubt and just buy the thing. Within this community people don't do in cons. I have done a lot of payments etc with people from this forum and I have never been screwed over with. Whoever made you the offer, if he is from this forum he would not be stupid enough to screw you over because within this small community there is no room for such things. I blindly paid over 300 euro's to a man I even don't know but the computer is happily sitting on my desk and it was exactly in the shape he promised. I am only saying this because I had to make the same descision once and gladly I just went for it. If you want that MSX2 just go for it and you will not regret it. If you don't want that MSX2, stop thinking about it and just let it pass. For a few euro's its simply not worth to start building this thing on your own, it will be the best form of self mutilation ever. Take my word on this one because I have build a lot of big stuff. Just buy the thing if you really want it.

That is exactly why i sometimes do not give any reaktion, because it costs lot of time and energy. After all those years i can see if a person is really interrested or not.

And energy is for me very important, because my eyes needs lots of it.

Cool

Totally agree, the people in this forum is really reliable people. I've bought a lot of things, hardware and software, even I've anticipated the payment for an item (Dalsori OPL4) and I've received it in perfect condition. If you really wants a MSX2, go for it.

About Bas, I knew about him by this forum and I've already bought 3 MSX2 to him and I'm really satisfied, all Phillips models are really great computers.

If you want an msx2 you will have to splash the cash, and that will mean parting with around 100 notes give or take to get one to your door. I still say your best option is bas.
