I think I'll get an MSX2 either from Bas or www.marktplaats.nl . I've decided to buy one which is either an 8250 or looks roughly like an 8250. One problem is that I don't understand how long the auctions on www.marktplaats.nl last or how they end. MSX computers have been listed on there for a few weeks, or even over a month.
Just call the number that is supllied on the advertisement. Ask if he understands english, if so you are lucky. Agree on the price and that he will send it to your country and adres then pay the man and wait three days. Then enjoy msxing
CX5Mer: They last until the seller gets a bid he finds acceptable. Marktplaats (though owned by eBay) is much less regulated than eBay, more like Craigslist or those little ad boards in the supermarket. Sometimes sellers forget to close an ad, but you can always send a mail through the site asking whether it’s still available.
CX5Mer good choice but ask the seller to pay attention packing the computer specially the front cover, it's very fragile on the Philips models.
Yes marktplaats.
Mosly only selling in the netherlands.
Packaging is hard to do for most sellers.
And it works? Yes power led is burning.
So high costs, not working drive, broken frontpanel, no cables....
Good luck, and you know i have diskdrives and cables.
marktplaats is annoying at times, im under the impression several buyers lurk there to buy msx games only to offer them again at higher pieces. I understand its all in the game, but it drives up the prices of collectors like me, very annoying.

What he said. 8250/55/80 front is very very fragile, had some bad luck with that myself when I sold my 8250 a year or 10 ago.

I don't need to ask if the seller understands English! Ik behoef niet te vragen als de verkooper verstaat Engels! I'm posting here in English because this is the English speaking forum. I've posted at least one message on the Dutch speaking forum. I'm almost as good as Dr Daniel Jackson in the series Stargate: SG-1. I visited Amsterdam with a group of friends or acquaintances where I supplied them with tourist courier services. I don't remember seeing any phone numbers on the Marktplaats ads, though.
I also wonder about eBay policy. Sellers on eBay can restrict their sales to their local site (e.g. Germany, Italy, Spain), but I think this i against EU law and eBay should be taken to court to stop them from allowing this. What do people on here think? Of course, on eBay Netherlands, Belgium, and Austria, they usually advertise items for sale to anywhere in the EU, Europe, or Worldwide, due to the lower populations, so they can reach more potential buyers. There don't seem to be any eBay sites for Portugal, Denmark, or Sweden, though.
I am very slowly starting to believe that you do not want a MSX2. I type 8250 in marktplaats and find 3 pieces of them for 45 euro. We have repair-bas offering the stuff you need. We have 3 more sellers on this forum selling machines at very fair prices. All the forum members including myself are trying to help you out on getting you what you need. All our advice isn't very helpfull it seems. You will not receive a MSX2 for free unless you are the lucky kid that finds one sitting in the attic.
These machines are becomming rare and we all realize that.
Either buy one or stop thinking about it. Like my friends always say to me "don't tell me, go buy it". Call, mail, go to whoever has a working MSX give the man the money and stop thinking. If in doubt go to www.openmsx.org or www.bluemsx.com download your favorite emulator and run your stuff from them. This is free of charge and works.
I do want an MSX2, but the problem is not having much money. Some time ago, I told a friend of mine that if I told him I'd been looking on eBay to try and buy an MSX2 computer he should say to me "Don't DO it! Use an EMULATOR!" I have already installed openmsx on a desktop PC and a Raspberry Pi, but it's not the same as the look and feel of a real MSX like my old CX5M, MSX computers on display in shops which I used, or an MSX2 which I never had, but I used two of them at one computer show in London.
As for Marktplaats, I typed in 8250 and found lots of items that just happened to be called 8250, but when I typed in MSX 8250, I only found one Philips MSX2 8250. This ad may have been placed on 09-11-14, says the computer is "gebruikt" (used) and "in goede staat" (in good condition), but it doesn't show the computer working. Of course, some more ads for MSX2 computers could appear at any time. A seller on eBay advertising lots of MSX computers is retrocompute33, but a lot of these have drives which aren't working and a recent one had right on joystick port one not working. Wherever I buy from, I'll have to pay €34 or €45 postage/shipping.
Bas does sound good, but I may not be able to afford an MSX2 from him unless I accept one which is shaped like a doorstop, instead of like an NMS8250.
Last night I even had a dream about MSX where there was a company selling MSX stuff, a cardboard box with some MSX stuff in it and two young boys who "just work for them". I saw a door with an intercom/entry phone on it. I rang the bell, but didn't get any reply, then I read a sign showing their opening hours and they'd just closed. I don't know what this means, but it could represent a proper company versus two kids selling stuff in the street, then when I ring the company's doorbell, I find I've missed my chance because I didn't act quickly enough.
