You can skip DHCP with setting up some static address (usually you can configure router to reserve a range of addresses which DHCP wouldn't use so you safe and don't have collisions). I think that could make boot faster, especially with cable not connected

Good tip. I've got the same directly from Eugeny a little earlier. It does make the boot a little faster, even more so if the cable is disconnected.

OTOH, rom loading feels like using sofarun, but without having to use it Smile

Enjoy.

Thank you!

I can notice 0.9 being somehow faster when booting. Maybe it's placebo?

If you use composite mapper 8-14 with GR8cloud enabled then it is really faster: I downsized the GR8cloud volume :( to 16MB and now Nextor requires less volume scanning operations on startup.

friguron wrote:

Btw, Eugeny, what do you exactly mean with "sound has been enhanced"?

I was talking about "quality improvements". Sound is clearer, MSX-Audio is emulated closer to the original Y8950, with digital low pass filter for OPL and OPLL.

Grauw wrote:

Talking about faster booting, that pause after "Press TAB key for boot-up menu", can it go away?

Press ESC.

Grauw wrote:

any extra delays can get annoying if I’m repeatedly testing something.

Configure networking in fixed IP address mode. Disable RAM disk. Disable GR8cloud. These several seconds are used to keep messages on the screen so that it would be possible to see what has been done and make a screen shot.If it is really critical I can put some option into the BIOS to skip this delay.

(Of course even better if it could instantly detect that it’s not connected without the need for a key press.)

Unfortunately it can not: W5100 does not have register to identify cable plugged and PHY being up.

just want to share my discoveries with you guys
.
Yesterday I was wondering why the Sound&Music from the game "TETRIS 2 SE" sound weird on my GR8NET recently updated to Firmware Ver 0.9 + Zemmix Neo BR. Well I was trying to match the music quality from Manuel Video

and I was amaze when I has discovered the whole game was made in simple MSX Basic + XBASIC + MBM Replayer + MSXDOS2

kudos for the Italian group called RAM if I remember Microtech (Marcos Rossin) is one of them.

Well today I have fixed my 1999 Version but it seem work just with REAL MSX TURBO R + GR8NET
so if you want the patches get it from here and just replace on Disk1of3 (menu - demo) and on Disk2of3 (newsel.bas - t2s)

Enjoy this great MSX game!

@zPasi: you asking for something impossible my friend. GR8NET is a very complicated MULTIMEDIA HARDWARE DEVICE Eugeny Briskov keep all under TOP SECRET

;P ...............I was joking

I would like to see some day a perfect emulation of GR8NET and FRANKY VDP but I think we need just wait.............

Less than perfect would do! Smile

Just BIOS, SD-interface, memory and mappers for testing purposes. Would not need to expose any trade secrets Wink

I decided to update my Gr8Net using a little basic script to save me from typing those long call statements. This is what happened. I could not find the error message in the manual:

This is the script being used (successfully before):

10 CLS
20 PRINT "Present version"
30 _NETVER
40 PRINT: PRINT "Downloading update"
50 _NETSETHOST("www.gr8bit.ru")
60 _NETSETPATH("/software/firmware/GR8NET")
70 _NETSETNAME("update.bin")
80 _NETBLOAD
90 PRINT: PRINT "Flashing firmware"
100 _NETFWUPDATE(3)
110 CLS:_SYSTEM

Help is welcome cuz I'm a bit clumsy with this cartridge.

The upgrade from 0.7 to 0.8 is a bit special and requires some extra steps iirc, check section 10.6 of the manual.
