Ah thanks, but following that paragraph step by step I still run into the same error when updating update.bin
- booted with cursor down pressed
- _NETBLOADed gr8net-fpga-trs.bin
- flashed with _NETFPGAUPD(1)
result:
Buffer: OK
CRC: 4531, OK
Location 1 selected (sector 08)
Verifying sector 0F - Match
Ok
- no reboot
- _NETBLOADed update.bin
- flashed with _NETFWUPDATE(3)
result:
Chip: OK, CRC=257B (V00.07)
MAC: 10:16:00:04:05:80
Buffer: OK, CRC=89DB (V00.09)
Bufcfg: CRC=5011
Firmware image is NOT suitable
Proceed with update Y/[N]?
Aborted
Ok
Seeing the result of the last action I got the feeling I missed a step. It tries to write V00.09 over V00.07 which already went wrong in the first place.
Edit:
_netver now returns:
Device: 00
Flash: V.00.07 (2018/9/20)
Engine: V.00.08 (2019/1/13)
Image: 78 (application), sector 8
Type: regular
HW_rev: 19 (stereo)
Engine now has updated from 07 to 08. So that part went Ok
I experienved the same error but cart works anyway.
I flashed firmware from 0.7 to 0.9 with the USB Blaster and then I did the online fw update.
The cart seems to work, maybe it's a bug in messages, let's wait Eugeny for a help...

You have to press Y (sometimes even has to be capital). The update was loaded and checked to be suitable but then flashing was aborted.
I aborted it on purpose because the firmware was not suitable. Without a USB blaster I'm not trying to find a way to brick it.

I took the gamble and pressed Y and it did flash without any problem (using _NETFWUPDATE).
Btw did you take the additional steps mentioned first to update the FPGA image as well??
Hi ToriHino. I followed every step in paragraph 10.6 as mentioned by Grauw. This resulted in the engine being updated from 0.7 to 0.8.
I already had that upgraded to 0.8 and with no trouble could update it to 0.9. The firmware indeed indicated that it was NOT suitable, but worked fine anyway.
"Not suitable" is an indication of mismatch between new version of flash chip update and currently running FPGA engine version.
Eugeny: Can you judge from my post what my situation is and how to proceed? I'm a bit insecure to ignore the not suitable message.
I continued the update even with the not suitable warning and everything went well. Just follow the manual instructions and remember that "power cycle" the MSX means to turn it off and wait some seconds before turning it on again. My first attempt failed because I hard reset instead of turning off the MSX.
