MISSION ELEVATOR

http://www.mobygames.com/game/c64/mission-elevator/screenshots

Of course MSX has japanese Elevator Action, but it has very childish non-serious feeling in it.....

http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/404

....while MISSION ELEVATOR manages to have "dangerous real agent job" feeling. :D I still remember how much I was scared when I played this Commodore 64 game as a kid in a dark room at evenings.....

Just check those Mission Elevator screenshots and you´ll see how much more attention programmers have put into game design compared to that dull looking Elevator Action, especially look at Amstrad screenshots to see different things you can do while playing, apart from shooting. :) (of course you can do same on C64, but those actions were not included to c64 screenshots, apart finding a key)

Even Spectrum version looks much more better than MSX Elevator Action...... *_*

Nah, go and test play it, at least Commodore 64 conversion is easy to find. :)

Apart from non-flickery colourful sprites, it´s easy to make screen2 conversion which is graphically at least 95% same as C64/Amstrad, as there is no scrolling in this game.

P.S. I can easily stand flickery multicolour sprites! :D

P.S.P.S. Please convert this game!!!!!!!

@:MaSaXi: Why not start a project yourself? You seem to know a lot about what can and cannot be done on MSX. Just start with some concept stuff (story, script, gameplay, some early gfx and perhaps some animations). You'd might interest other people in helping with development. MSX is the perfect if-you-want-it-then-you-can-make-it-yourself computer system.

I did the same with MOAM. Wink

Well, the time is comming ... the MSX would need some new games!
Let's take a chance.

The weird part is that over here are a lot of artists and programmers (yes, it is written in the public *PROFILES*), but there are only a few spare titles to choose from.

I've only started developing for the MSX since beginning of last year...
The first obstacle I encountered was that there were not that many great development-tools out there.
All seperate little tools which did not really work together. So the first thing a new development-team needs to do before even thinking of making a game is to create TOOLS...TOOLS and some more TOOLS...and then and only then can you begin making games. Because it also takes a lot of time to create good games and if you dont have the right tools it takes EVEN longer !

I couldn't agree more with RyJuZo. Tools is what we need.

I developed some small tools using the BlitzPlus from BlitzBasic. BlitzPlus is a hybrid of C plus BASIC languages ...

Marble Madness and/or Gyroscope conversion or clone in SCREEN 1. Surely doable. Smile

if someone can do 2 pixel scrolling in SCREEN 1, I really don´t care if there are some colourclash on edge of ravines as long as game scrolls smoothly enough. It may be playable with 4 pixel scrolling too... as Spectrum Gyroscope was FLIP-SCREEN based.... and it was still somewhat playable... Smile

There are NO such like games for MSX like Marble Madness! Crying

MSX2 conversion is nice too of course, but I feel there is bit more challenge to make it for MSX-1, I think. Smile

Should this not be relatively easy on MSX2? It's a tile based vertically scrolling game... Why was this never ported to MSX2??

Bubbler plays similar to Marble Madness.

One game that would have blown my mind if it had been released back in the day, is Terra Cresta.
It sucks because it is perfectly doable a game like that on MSX2. We have Xevious which is cool, but it lacks many elements from Terra Cresta. UFO Robo Dangar is another game very similar (both arcade games) which are not available on MSX. The closest thing I played is Gall Force, which is a brilliant game btw, but different game.

However, I must say MSX has given us so many great shmups that we should not complain.
We have arcade perfect -gameplay wise- versions of Star Force, Star Soldier, Galaga, Galaxian, Twin Bee, Xevious which I already mentioned, Zaxxon... and then original games for MSX such as Exoide-Z, Final Justice, EI - Exa Innova, Knightmare, Super Laydock, Aleste, Zanac, Zanac-Ex. And not only that but we can also enjoy new developments like all GW's Workshop games -Draconic Throne, Buddhagillie, Inq & Suq, Shoulderblade- Wing Warriors, No Ren-Sha, Mecha8... those I remember now but there are many more! So, I complain but I am also very grateful for the quality of games we had/have.

Wow, if we are resurrecting this old thread, I'm going to add my wishlist Wink (some of which I'd love to do myself):
- I loved "Nether Earth" in the Spectrum, but there is no MSX game like that. I've always dreamed of a "Nether Earth 2", which I'd love to see in MSX (I'm not very interested in a port of the original, as if I wanted to play it, I can already play it in spectrum ;), but a sequel would be amazing ).
- I'd also love to see some point-and-clicks, Maniac Mansion style. There is "Stan the dreamer", but I don't think there's many more. Or even something more puzzle-y like Gobliiins would be awesome.
- and finally, more rogue-likes. There's Deep Dungeon Adventure, and z80rogue, but we can always have more :)
