I think Infocom's Z-Machine (the engine that ran their text adventures) hasn't been ported to MSX. There is a ZX Spectrum port for Z80 already (ZXZVM).
Zork series is available for CP/M any thus also runs on MSX-DOS.
- I loved "Nether Earth" in the Spectrum, but there is no MSX game like that. I've always dreamed of a "Nether Earth 2", which I'd love to see in MSX (I'm not very interested in a port of the original, as if I wanted to play it, I can already play it in spectrum , but a sequel would be amazing ).
- I'd also love to see some point-and-clicks, Maniac Mansion style. There is "Stan the dreamer", but I don't think there's many more. Or even something more puzzle-y like Gobliiins would be awesome.
- and finally, more rogue-likes. There's Deep Dungeon Adventure, and z80rogue, but we can always have more
Yeah, I think Nether Earth is considered the first real RTS game. We are indeed missing a game of this genre in MSX, although you could argue that we have Herzog, on that one you don't really control the units, just the robot. An RTS is technically challenging but something simple would be great.
Regarding point and click, somebody was attempting a port of SCUMMVM some time ago, but the status of the project is unknown.
Never seen this thread before. Has anyone suggested Archon yet? Because... yeah, MSX really needs a port of Archon. It's practically the only retro microcomputer that doesn't have one!
Archon II: Adept would be a good choice as well.

One game that would have blown my mind if it had been released back in the day, is Terra Cresta.
It sucks because it is perfectly doable a game like that on MSX2. We have Xevious which is cool, but it lacks many elements from Terra Cresta. UFO Robo Dangar is another game very similar (both arcade games) which are not available on MSX. The closest thing I played is Gall Force, which is a brilliant game btw, but different game.
Terra Cresta was mostly finished as "Terra Kresta" but never published. A Pity.
'TERRA KRESTA' (1988) MSX, beta version
Not Terra Cresta but also an arcade quality conversion is YeongMan Seo's ASO remake
As for Real Time Strategy games, it's a shame Paragon Productions' Dome was never finished...
oh wow, I didn't know somebody attempted a port of Dune2.
I think a slow paced RTS in that style is definitely feasible in MSX.

Did you see Tiny Yaroou's Terra Cresta MSX audio demo?
Did you see Tiny Yaroou's Terra Cresta MSX audio demo?
Yep, but it's only an impressive tech demo, not a playable game.
@Manuel: I'll need to find out which version of Z-machine those games require, then, and if they can be used to play also later Infocom titles and modern IF games. Once I have the time and energy to do so, anyway...
