We've just added vdpmusic by MSX developer hap to our MSX downloads section. The demo is a proof of concept, that generates music on an old CRT screen by alternating bright and black backgrounds. Should you not have a CRT screen in your vicinity, you can also have a listen at this video. The demo has been declared public domain and for your convenience, source code is included. Perhaps you can spit out a tune or two?

janghang yes it's a squarewave so it kinda sounds like PSG, see the sourcecode to verify that the sound is actually not the PSG. You can also try the program on your own MSX, I recommend with RF cable and high volume.

meisei(my MSX1 emulator) can also simulate this effect.

*edit* I posted more info here in 2012 - yes it's an old demo.
