Hello everyone! Im new to the forum and I guess in a way back to MSX. It was the first computer we had when I was just a little kid and I've spend countless hours (sometimes also frustration) in games, tape loading etcetera.

Just recently got into the MSX again and dusted of our old Philips MSX2 NMS8220. I immediately bought some new tapes cause I couldnt wait to start collecting. There is a lot for me to learn still although I remember some things but that was many years ago.

Emulation for MSX just doesn't give me that nostalgic feel I got when I popped inmy first ever MSX game Mopi Ranger by Konami into the Real MSX. Oh boy great times.

Anyway hope to find some people and stuff i can learn from (Im already struggling getting my NMS1515 data recorder to work) but thats for other topics.

Oh yeh I'm based in the Netherlands.

Hi MSX mate!
I had a MSX Philips VG8020 back in the '80, and I feel sort of a link on MSX even today.
Enjoy!

Hi!! Welcome!! Good to have more new people!! The MSX8220 is for me one of the best machines!! It is so nice device! It's small and it's a MSX2.. Ok .. it is one of the first MSX2 machines and it does not have a disk drive and standard less memory.. but for some reason i love it! If you are in the Netherlands you can probably upgrade your 8220 easy. I suggest some more internal memory and maybe a 7 Mhz upgrade! .. Next to that you only need a good SD storage device and you have a very good complete machine!! I did the same with the 8220 i own and now it is my most used machine. I even use it more than my Turbo-R or 8280.

My small collection of original msx stuff posted above

Thanks edoz! It's probably a good idea to upgrade it I will have to look into it (reading faqs and stuff) I actually only have experience with this model, an MSX 1 model from Philips and a MSX2 model from Philips with diskdrive (they used to have that at my school, I was so jealous haha).

Really hope my Philips NMS1515 still works propery (posted a topic in hardware section).

Go for a MegaflashROM + SD + 512KB and your machine will be eternally grateful (mainly you :P )

BTW, the NMS8220 was also my first MSX and it's still with me.

MegaflashROM + SD + 512KB cartridge:

GR8NET:

GR8NET contacts are gilded and there is an extra LAN connector. Tin is not recommended for pin slots.

The tinned contacts scratch easily. The pins of slots can be damaged by hooking on asperities.

Also tin whiskers occur over time.

Your machine will not be eternally grateful.
