Nice set-up with the KX14CP1! Awful machine, ´cause the connectors and slots are all placed in front, enought RAM for almost everything and a nice keyboard. Perfect gaming MSX. Sure you won´t regret the sale, Eric?

This machine's looks are well designed as it still looks mighty fine. The cartridgeslots are well placed, for the looks that is. Big cartridges will block each other and cover off the reset button. The keyboard types great and the cursor keys are in a unique position. The right part of your handpalm can rest on the keyboard without touching the numeric keys. There's no membrane in the keyboard, which makes it easier to repair. The PCB does break easily after years of heavy duty.
I've had several of those machines through the years and they always did a fantastic job, but they all died under weird circumstances as well.
Clear RGB video without the vertical stripes which every Philips I've seen has. Out of the box great sound and mix with external soundchips. Strong enough PSU to feed two well filled slot expanders.
The connector for an external disk drive served me well, back in the day. I had a power lead going out on the back to give the drive some voltage as well.
The original diskdrive is a tad suicidal though. If you push the eject button for ~75%, the disk will eject, but the upper head goes down again. If you carelesly insert a disk, you'll decapitate your upper head.
Apart from the terribly slow diskROM this beast has ruled MSX world in every aspect until the turbo R got released.

Best and most complete MSX2 I ever had.

Looks like a German machine to me because of QWERTZ. So even if you change the buttons on the keyboard, your BIOS will need to be also changed to output Y instead of Z. Very inconvenient. But with French keyboards it's even worse...

Thank you!

There are a few answers on this forum, search on clean sony.
I remember cleaning mine with a light(non aggressive) cleaning fluid on a cloth with fibres. It made it less yellow.

I managed to whiten a few yellow parts from my vintage computers by submerging them into a 12% hydrogen peroxide solution, that you can legally buy in EU. You can use a large transparent plastic box for that operation, you can buy such boxes in Bauhaus or similar shops. And you need bright sunlight or a UV lamp but not the one from the currency detector.

I would not recommend to use the hydrogen peroxide gel or using a cloth - the results will be shitty. Only the liquid form of hydrogen peroxide will work properly as the convection will mix the solution for even application.

CAUTION: When using a UV lamp make sure you stay out of UV light to avoid health issues!
