We're also thinking about removing the frameskip settings from Catapult and the OSD menu, as they're not really useful at all nowadays.

I used the frameskip when I ran openMSX on my Raspberry-pie 4 when it got officially supported. It somehow helped a bit, although it is strange since RaspberryPie 4 got 4G ram and is faster than RaspberryPie 3

Which frameskip? maxframeskip? Minframeskip?

Note that if the host system can't cope, openMSX will already skip frames. With the maxframeskip setting you can limit it, at the cost of slower emulation.
The use case of minframeskip is not known to me... can someone think why it is useful?

I remember using 1 frameskip as Maximal as it fit the emulation speed previously on my Raspberry-Pie 4

The question is: from which value did you change the maxframeskip to 1 and what was the effect?

If the system is struggling, lowering the maxframeskip will force openMSX to render more frames, even if the emulation speed would drop below the requested setting (usually 100% of the normal speed).

I used the Misc Settings, because as you mentioned the system was somehow struggling to the annoying level. Even I was ashamed to Stream the Playthrough. But that helped it to get to the accepted level...

I think minframeskip could be useful if you know your machine is indeed not capable of rendering all frames but you still want a steady framerate. For example not skipping frame 4, 8 and 10 with minframeskip on 0 but skipping 2, 4, 6 etc. That might prove to be a more pleasant experience.

Gloriou: can you be a bit more specific?
1. what was the value before you changed it?
2. what was the effect? So, what changed, that made you think it became acceptable?

@sdsnatcher73: possibly. But I think nowadays it's very rare that the host system cannot render all frames anyway.

@Grauw Can you try it again? We renamed the setting to fastforward and fixed some issues, like the ones you mentioned.
Same request for @ren Smile (And I hope soon we will also have the Catapult updated to reflect these changes....)

Nice improvements recently!

Fast-forward UI icon still says "throttle".

When I fast-forward, the FM-PAC emulation core doesn’t seem to like it (too fast access?). With throttle it is unaffected.
