A promise is a promise... Here's a video trailer, so you'll taste some of levels 1,2 and 3 (bosses incuded). Set video at 720p50 and enjoy!
Impressive indeed. I really am impressed with the use of colors and the smoothness of this game, considering the hardware it's running on. Quite some professional softwarehouses back in the 80's could only have wished they were able to do something like this.
Besides that: it also looks like quite a hard game!
/me is going to hook up his Arcade Turbo to his Zemmix Neo :)
@Manuel probably in a new project XD actually the code is almost complete and I have really few remaining bytes.
I haven't played your game yet of course, but I do think the gameplay will be much more interesting if there is something to fight for except to survive or scoring points. Getting some rewards for your skills in the form of weapon upgrades is a success factor in most shmups.
But we'll see
On Tuesday I was as guest in a live streaming to show Freedom Fighter and to talk about the project. I showed the three unlockable secrets in the game:
- music test: you can listen to all the music of the game without the sound effects that "interrupt" the execution in channel 1
- spaceship selection: once unlocked this you can choose to play with the Freedom Fighter spaceship or choose one of the most famous for MSX (Zanac, Twinbee, Star Soldier, Star Force and Hype)
-cheats: max weapon level and spaceship collision deactivation
I also previewed the level 4 map (the map is complete but all the boss sprites and their movement/attack patterns are missing. You will not see the map of the fourth level in this video)
As said during the live the codes to unlock the secrets will be provided by the game, one at a time, when you'll complete it. Since the game (according to the MSXdev regulation) will be downloadable for free, who after downloading it will make a donation of at least € 1 to my paypal address will receive all three codes via email without having to wait (so my wife won't bother me again about unuseful coding if I'll be able to gift her something ).
I've just completed the implementation of level 4. This time it is a max speed level (caused by gravitational attraction of the wormhole). The end level boss is very big (80x80 pixels) and split itself in 4 elements of 40x40 pixels. Ok, just one level to go. And the game will be finally complete (hope I'll be able to do it before the MSXDEV deadline)
Just saw this level... Man... Am I looking forward to it's release!
Super cool! The only thing that bothers me is the sprite flickering on the mid-level boss. The rest is wonderful!
Yep. In space levels it is more noticeable than in other levels. Mid level bosses are composed by 8 sprites 16x16 (so 4 sprites for upper part and 4 sprites for lower part) they flicker because the bullets that start from enemy sprites coordinates so when there are 5 or more sprites on the same line they start flickering. As I said it is more noticeable in space levels because the high difference/contrast that balck color has compared to other colors (you can see that watching other videos in my youtube channel). It bothers me too, but only in levels 2 and 4 (and I don't plan to have more levels in space environment)
Very nice! The last boss is pretty cool! And looks quite challenging! Specially, the first time you reach it, those laser patterns are going to be hell!
Thank you Santi!
