Does anyone have this Tam Tam Twins demo by any chance? it would be a shame if it got lost.

Nothing got lost, don't worry!
I can't wait too to see it on my MSX!
Just to help this topic back on track. I am really curious what will come out of this project. I am not the MSX1 kind of person but this one got my interest for all the right reasons. Its challenging, does something rare and looks promising. Keep us updated!!
After a quite long time, I made a new version:
Now with items to collect (diamonds). It seems simple, but I had to make an entire new engine to deal with it, as the static blocks of BG lives on ROM, and these kind of items lives on RAM. That was not so easy, and lots of refactoring were made. Still bugs here and there, they will be treated later (I hope).
Since the starting I had the idea of using some animation on items disappearing (I shamelessly copied from SMB). That's a very cool effect rarelly seen on 8 bit platformers, much less on MSX.
Hope you enjoy!
Nice. Really like the progress. The "bling"-effect, is it sprites or tiles?
It also looks like you have a good deal of time left to handle sfx, music and other enemy/encounter management/behaviour
Wauw... That looks very nice indeed. And what Bengalack says: Those sparkles when you pick-up a diamons are a very nice touch!
It's looking really nice. You said expectations were low in 1985 for smb1 but you'll discover that the physics in that game is more sophisticated than it first appears, so I wish for a good jump and skid and acceleration/deceleration on the character and scroll , which would make your game great.

They are sprites, 9 frames, each one shown during 3 screen refreshs, so 9 x 3 = 27 frames, a little under half second on NTSC.

I was referring to the graphics and animations, the physics of SMB 1 is superb, is far beyond its time, and in my opinion, is the main reason of its success.
I have to improve a lot the physics of the game to be on par, and this will not be easy.
