Hello all.

I'm an Amstrad CPC fan but I've decided to enter the world of MSX Smile From what I have read in various web pages, forums etc, I think that a MSX2+ is enough for me, right?! Of course, I would happily got my hands on a TurboR but I can't spend that amount of cash... Using hardware extensions, like the circuit that pushes the z80 to run at 7MHz and the sunrise IDE interface, you can get a machine with decent performance, let's say, for SymbOS, right? Smile Anyway, if anyone has a MSX2+ for sale or to suggest something else, please drop me a line.

Best regards!

Symbos needs 128k of memory to run.
If you decide to buy a MSX 2+ go for a model thats relatively easy to upgrade like the Panasonic FSa1WX(s) originally the MSX 2+ machines from japan only had 64kb of ram.
Another tip is to buy a VG8235 or NMS8250/55/80 they all come with 128k as standard but is MSX2, 95% of all software work with that. The 8250/55/80 can also be upgraded with more memory relatively easy.
On ebay superb articles from japan has a MSX2+ for sale (ebay store) the panasonic is a good choice.

bennyroger: Where did you buy 256k DRAM from to upgrade the internal memory of your FS-A1WX(S)?

BTW, I have ordered 4Mb Padial RAM cartridge as well.

I did not buy the ram chips, got them for free from an old VGA card.
If you cant find any chips, contact me and I'll try to find some for you, if I find some you can have them for free.......

Ok, I bought the FS-A1WX! I've found an article that describes the memory upgrade procedure and I found it rather easy. I have also a big cardboard box full of old pc stuff to yank the components that I'll need. Thank you very much for your replies and I will see you in the more interesting sections of this forum Smile

Best regards!

Anyone knows about the existence of PCB layouts of this upgrade?
