i have never been able to find correct config to make it work properly.
it seems easy for every one but i read the veeerrrrryy long thread on
symbos and could not find any clue,
In fact from CF ide the OS brings up but i dont have access to any application. And i have not tried from FD since i am 2 lazy.

but from what i read it should work with no option with cf ide .
i have tried some option like you say but it is useless.
I guess i will never use symbos since i can only toy with the mouse on the desktop

Finally, I am sure that there is an incompatibility between Philips 8250 + Sunrise IDE (CF) + LPE-4MB-V4 + SymBOS.
I also tried many different switches with no success.

I succeeded with a MSX Sony F700FD that booted correct to SymBOS with Sunrise IDE (CF) + LPE-4MB-V4. My MSX Sony F700D didn't.

So, as there are some MSX Sony F700FD that symbos works and some MSX Sony F700FD that symbos does not work and all of the 8250 do not work with the above combination, it must be a point of revision or a different hardware address that uses Symbos ??!!!??
The strange think is that all other programs show the updated RAM and run without a problem, so it's clear that something missed from the side of Symbos.

Anybody knows any problems related with other hardware combination ?

when you say F700FD you mean HBF-700F , the french version of hb700P or hb700d ? (keyboard is azerty)

Sorry, I just had a thought, at work!! Is it possible that Symbos checks for a time/date when it boots ?
Because all of the msx I tried (except the MSX Sony F700D that the whole hardware worked) have not a working battery.

Well it is simply a fat16 problem.
I have a 8250 too. I made a 8GB the same way with fat 12 (boot) and the others fat16
If I turnoff fat16 by slash r I can approach the first partition. In case of leave it fat16 , symbos starts but freezes after that.
Also I have a 128MB with no problems at all . I can make a copy of that and sent it to you !

that's exactly what's happening, symbos starts and freezes at the first screen

i have two partitons of 32mb fat12, I disabled the autoexec.bat (which enables fat16) but the problem remains the same

can you compress it and send it to dir(underscore)marillion at hotmail dot com to check ?

sunrise, it seems that it does not solve the problem

I have both partitions 32mb each, my cf is 64mb and they have both been formatted with fat12

I am deleting fat16.com from autoexec.bat, symbos starts but it freezes, but If I unplug the 4MB RAM, and write the fat16.com inside autoexec.bat, system boots ok and symbos boots correct

I am using: fat16 patch ver 0.12

Hmm, well there are a few common problems related to memory mappers… It could be that SymbOS mis-reads 4MB mappers as being 0MB because of a 8-bit page counter overflow. Or it could improperly be trying to read the mapper size directly from the registers (as Leo suggested on page 1), in which case the internal mapper would conflict with the external mapper. Finally, there could be a bug in how SymbOS deals with multiple mappers.

I would look at the source code for you to see if I could spot one of these errors, but it seems SymbOS is not open source .

Sure, may a patch can solve this specific problem with the 8250's and other MSXes.

So, If someone else has the same problem "symbos starts loading but hangs at the first screen" with his MSX and a memory mapper under symbos, please send a message in this thread in order to send an email to the author of symbos at the end of the next week.
