Where to buy floppies? - Some suggestions

Hi,

I spent some time searching for DD floppies to buy. New HD floppies are still easy to find (for the time being), but I reckon DD floppies would be more stable in DD use. And, because they are not easy to find, decided to share my finding here for those who don't have SD / MMC cart / HD cart / need to use floppies on their MSX's for whatever reason. This might save someones time. Smile2

Of course, there's the www.floppydisk[s].com, which was mentioned elsewhere, too. But their floppies are quite pricey (double the price of new HD floppies).

Then there's amigakit (regional shops for US, EU, Canada, UK, so customs is no a problem).

They sell DD floppies (formatted for Amiga), at much cheaper and in smaller quantities! Still more expensive that HD, though. They also seem to sell competition Pro for Amiga, which of course would be quite trivial to convert to MSX - though you need to change the cord, because PiN 7 is probably not connected at all to the connector (changing the connector might be an issue for some MSX's because their joystick ports don't protrude at all, so the standard D-sub casings could be in the way).

Any other suggestions where to get floppies? Or joysticks for that matter =). Already ordered some pads as suggested by Nyyrikki in another thread =).

I would recommend GGS-data in Sweden, the supplier is probably Individual Computers.

I always wonder when such 'new' DD (or even regular HD) disks were produced. Are those disks that were produced couple of months back, or part of large batches that were leftover once, and sold piece-by-piece over decades (New Old Stock)?

Don't need any DD disks like the old ones that people sell with their machines, but wouldn't mind buying a few boxes if I could be sure they were of recent manufacture. And of decent quality, not the bottom-of-the-barrel quality (due to price pressure) you often see by the time media goes out of fashion. Read: a bit 'future-proof' quality/condition.

Other than that, IMHO the only sensible thing to do with floppies is make sure you don't need them anymore, ASAP WinkLOL! (same goes for tapes).

Most is new old stock. Made a few years ago.
However It is possible to get real new DD-disks, you just need the numbers.

Thanks to Repais-Bas I have enoguh floppies for the foreseeable future Tongue. Also, I have all my MSX files / floppies transferred to a PC... so if a floppy dies I can always replace it Tongue. But, of course I think I'll buy a SD/MMC cart quite soon. Oh, and it seems that DD-floppies are out of stock in GGS-Data...

In this case you would need waterproof disks ...

Of course ... just the numbers, and a lot of *MONEY*! Well, to be fair most of the business would accept credit card either ...
