Hmmm... these things are pretty rare... I have a Sony HBD-50, that's a 360kB FDD with interface. I think that doesn't suit you . But why do so difficult? A loose 720kB FDD with interface will cost you most likely more than 45 euros. 45 euros is the price that repair-bas asks for a fully functional Philips NMS8250 MSX2, 128kB RAM, with built in FDD (720kB). Try that instead

Thanks for pointing out the lpadial site.

Buying 3rd party hardware or another MSX2 will be my last resort, meanwhile I will try to get original equipment for my FS-A1 if possible. Memories, you know..
So 45E for original 720K FDD+IC is not too much if it is in great shape and works OK.

PS. Yes, I live in Tallinn.

Cool, then I assume your MSX affection have the same roots as mine: the ultimate soviet computer class - KUVT2 (Yamaha MSX2 YIS 805R and YIS 603IIIR).

As of original feeling, while romantic, it's not too practical. Old floppy drives tend to break. And replacing them is not an easy task, because you need XT-compartible drive (DS0 etc.).

With new controller you can use any spare modern AT floppy drive (DS1) without any problems.

Yet another solution is an IDE controller from www.msx.ch. You can use LS-120 drive with it. It reads all 1DD/2DD and HD floppy disks as well as it's native 120MB super floppies

Anyway, if you're interested, I have a spare 1DD (360K) Yamaha FD-03 external floppy disk drive. It's working great, but doesn't support 2DD floppies (720K). I ask 25 euro + shipping

Thanks for offer, but since all my legacy MSX disks are 2DD, I have no use for 1DD drive.

Good luck looking for those items!

If you are able to get just the 2DD IC, then you could probably connect directly a PC disk drive, just adding the power supply and inverting the connection flat cable (at least, this seems to work fine with HBD-30 and HBD-50 from SONY).

Continuing with this DO-IT-YOURSELF, if you get a 1DD FDD you could also change the ROM in the IC, to add the 2DD BIOS, and then, change the original diskdrive for a PC one.

I was wondering what happened to ever so productive russian MSX scene, where did all those KYBT-s end up?

I agree, KYBTs are the best computers ever. All the dirty capitalist pigs won't agree with this statement, they will tell TurboR GT is better. But I know better that it is all a lie!

Russian MSX scene was very active in 1994-1996 due to large numbers of very cheap Daewoo CPC-400S MSX2 systems. In 1997 everyone just moved on to PC (web design, rendering, FreeBSD/Linux, 3d gaming) and lost interest in 8-bit platforms.
