It may still feel a bit weird, to release a music disk on a day like today, without having an MSX fair nearby. It must be due to the virtual world we're living in these days. How different it used to be halfway the 90's, when music disks were hot, when groups were still behind their booths copying disks and sticking labels to them. Those were the heydays of MSX music disks, and certainly the heydays of the Moonblaster stereo formula. Such MB-stereo disks are a bit of a rarity these days, as many composers from the old days have moved to about every other corner you can imagine: MP3, PSG, SCC and sometimes Moonsound. All composers? No.. one Frisian musician keeps the spirit high and as such this new MSX music disk by Near Dark sees the light. A plentiful 26 Moonblaster stereo songs by Meits are present, all being covers from MSX games from software houses such as Konami, Falcom and Micro Cabin.

Meits has been working on this disk peacefully since February 2011. With no fair deadline at the horizon, there was no stress, making it a relaxing spare time activity. It's what he does with his MSX, and what he keeps on doing. So, without any set deadline, dIIIsk is probably just a matter of time. All music of dIIsk was created using the real deal, as Meits is still not convinced that the emulation of sound is 100% perfect. As such, convinced that you should use the real deal too, the package contains the files to copy to a real disk - though for convenience a disk image is included as well.

Requirements are pretty standard; MSX2, 64KB RAM, a double sided diskdrive/disk and the required sound chips. So, have fun with Meits his latest output. And if you close your eyes you could just pretend you've just returned home after visiting a large MSX fair, like in the old days!

I certainly had a nice trip through memory lane with this music disk, I felt very nostalgic Smile
But other than that, I liked this new MSX production as well. The music is good, the different kind of analyzers funny and the intro and end demos seal the deal.

Too bad I'm without a monitor for my 1CM atm, otherwise I would have thrown some MIDI-PAC at it!

Hmmm.. a new musicdisk.. cool! Gonna try it out this evening!

The trip down memory lane would be complete if you release your review on a diskmag in stead of below this newspost, Jorito! Smile
