MSX demos from the old hat

Many MSX people who are active today have probably emerged into the MSX scene during the 90's, for instance because the Picturedisks by Clubguide, Genic and Sunrise triggered their attention. There has been an era before that though, which may be easily overlooked. An era where cracking the latest games and creating SCC music players was common. Names from the past, names that disappeared or changed during the 90's; Sigma Group, USE Crackings. Even ANMA made demos during that almost forgotten era, a group that would become one of the key demo makers in the MSX demoscene during the 90's. Sigma's Cas Cremers would become famous for his games, such as Arc, Black Cyclon and the promising yet destroyed Core Dump.

BlueCrystal noticed MRC didn't have all these old - and somewhat funny - productions and took a dive into his own collection. Now that he's submitted them to us, they can now be downloaded from our ever growing downloads section.

Which brings us to the scene wiki. One thing the wiki could use is information about these old groups and individuals. It may well be possible to find a more recent group on social media (Facebook, and even our own forum), but chances are that groups and individuals from this truly old era are complete strangers to most of us. If there is anyone among you who knows something about such old groups (names, product lists, biography), we couldn't encourage you enough to add this information to the scene wiki. Even better would be to invite the relevant persons and resurrect them to our current MSX era, then they could add this information them self.

As for the key aspect of this newspost, the demos; it's certainly part of our legacy. And if you notice something embarrassing and hilarious about some of them (from today's point of view), remember these are almost a quarter of a century old. We were young, they were young!

Thanks for the Virus demo ... The version in my archive was not original, it showed "Hacked by TSR"

Haaisoft is Hayo Rubingh - if the name doesn't give it away, the fact that early FAC demos announced that the FAC was an actual federation of earlier groups such as Haaisoft and Use Crackings does. Even Le Ti (who was that anyway?) published under the FAC banner. I'm a bit surprised to find in the newly updated wiki that Use Crackings had so many members - I always thought it was only Rolf van Deursen, but I'm not sure about that.

About a month and a half ago, I've also uploaded:
The haunted demo by Merlasoft
Usas demo by Anma
Ironball demo by Sigma

Browsing through my old floppies, I noticed that several of them have become unreadable. I was unable to add Topgun (Sigma), another USE demo and one from SMA. Anyone else got some old demo stuff lying around ;)
