I once made a disk with Eggerland II, King Kong II, Vampire Killer (I think) and Metal Gear. All the games loaded under 7 seconds (not including the basic loader).

What I did was blanking the screen, loading the complete game (128k) in VRAM in one go, then copied the various 8k parts to their respective RAM pages, erasing the VRAM, and starting the game.

At the time I didn't realise it would only work on MSX2 machines with 128k VRAM, but hey, it worked for me. Would I have realised this at the time, I would have used less VRAM, or perhaps no VRAM at all.

Anyway, the trick is to have one unfragmented game file. The only way you can speed it up even further is to tinker with the boot sector. You could put a tiny program in there, which would load your actual loader, which would copy the contents of actual sectors directly to RAM. I didn't like that much, because usually you got one game per disk. Plus it was harder to copy. And it was harder to convert the disk to files again.

It was bloody fast, though...
