I bought this real MSX hardware Wavy computer and I am a little scared that it is 100% japanese. Does anyone know if it support also English language, even in BASIC mode? I am just curious.

Oh one more thing..IS THERE a resource or website where I can buy BRAND new MSX games developed (in catridge) that I can buy? Can you guys help me find resources for brand new games for MSX both in BASIC and in cartridge? Also I want to buy cartridge to disk drive for the MSX computer and would like to know what it is called? One final thing, how can I transfer .dsk image to the real disk drive for the MSX?

I'm not familiar with this particular model, but I'm fairly certain that it supports English as well (the keyboard suggests as much Wink . I have a Sony HB-F1XD, which is also a Japanese computer, and which also has an English input mode.

Most of your questions are answered in this FAQ:

Though I find it surprising that you purchased an MSX without actually doing some research ahead of time

I agree that I should do some research. I am 100% with you there actually. Here I cannot argue with you at all!! However, in my defense, though I should have researched you are right...when I was a child I had the white wavy MSX with Arabic keys. I can even program in BASIC in Arabic or English and I played almost all the games 98% in English, and BASIC in English too. I thought all MSX systems followed suit that I can switch between English and the other language. However AFTER purchase I get scared in thinking it is 100% Japanese and wondered what I would do with a Japanese computer. I get scared here. You said in the other hand that it can switch between English and Japanese so to that to me is a relief. I just hope someone have this model to confirm it, that is all.

Here more explanations about the Japanese keyboard :

If you don't press the KANA key, you will be in English mode by default (the KANA key corresponds to the CODE key on European/Brazilian/Arabic MSX computers). This key allows to switch between English characters and Japanese characters.

You can buy new cartridge games here: http://msxcartridgeshop.com/

Japanese MSX computers can be used without much problem, Basic will be in English. Only downside is that if you plug in a Konami game cartridge, they will be in Japanese.

I think what you want is a MegaFlashRom SCC+ SD. It will let you run dsk images directly on you computer without a physical disk drive.

@Grauw

Wait....are you saying if the Konami game that is English will become Japanese and no way about it it will have to be Japanese??? You are saying there is no way it will be in English?

If you load ROM image files I’m sure they can be tweaked somehow but… yes most Konami games are bilingual, and choose English or Japanese based on the machine’s country.

For example, here are a bunch of IPS patches you can apply to ROM files that force the language to English: http://www.msx.org/news/software/en/new-ips-patches-konami-g...

That seems to cover most of the games where story really plays a role.

BTW: despite the seller lists this item as "Platform: MSX 2" it is not MSX2. I think it's an honest mistake from their part, maybe the model markings MPC-2 and WAVY 2 confused them. If you didn't think you're purchasing an MSX2, no harm done. It probably is fine MSX1 machine and the price seems reasonable.

Effects on the individual games differ. For instance, the only effect I remember on Vampire Killer is that the game's logo is in Japanese. Everything else was in English, as far as I can remember.

Keep in mind, you can often find cartridges in BIN format, and those can be patched to run in any language.

All said, I own a Japanese Sony MSX2 machine, and I've never regretted buying it.
