Yes, that's jealousy ... It lets me think about these comments on the SMSPOWER forum , when I've made some promo for blueMSX (as the emulator has also support for the first Sega machines) :

"I think that I should comment this. It is amazing how actice you MSX people are nowadays! MSX was totally overwhelmed by Commodore computers here in Finland in the 80's. In the meantime there were probably just a couple of people in the 80's who had Sega Sc computer here in Finland.

What is the situation today in Finland? You guys had the MSX info meeting and the upcoming Pelikonepeijoonit meet is concentrated to all things Sega :D What ever happened to the hundreds of thousands of people who bought Commodore? I mean, when is the Commodore meeting going to happen ? ;) "

And here , you can read that Rob Hubbard has used a Yamaha CX5M computer to create music for some C64 games ... Another proof of MSX power ! :)

oh, but there's a lot we don't know about them either Wink

I think the C64 community is a lot bigger than the MSX one. Well, outside of Japan, at least Tongue
But that doesn't really matter, does it? Anyway, the fact they notice this OCM; I'd say the MSX community should take it as a compliment.

Make retro games, not war Wink

C64 and MSX can't really be put on one and the same scale.. on some points the c64 is a mile ahead, on other points the msx is a mile ahead. while the C64 has the SID and the standard MSX1/2 only the PSG, the soundextensions do count, and on that point MSX wins big time. GFX/game-wise, the MSX wins as long things are not moving too much in non-MSX ways. There's no way a C64 can match games like Usas, SD-Snatcher, Fray, etc. But otoh there's no way an MSX can match some c64 demos (wolf3d with moving fractals on the walls, all on a 1mhz cpu, anyone?) on things that aren't available in the VDP. With that I mean that the MSX2 is fast when it comes to vertical scrolling, horizontal scrolling in limited number of situations, vertical stretching, horizontal waving, page-cycling, color-cycling etc., all functionality of the VDP. But if an effect requires something that isn't available as VDP-effect, then the C64 usually wins.

So, which is better, I dunno. Let's at least say that I'd appreciate it when a few low-res modes will be injected into the OCM, for ex, 160x160 with chars based on 4x8 pixels, where each pixel has its own color. Ideal for 'moving' things.. MSX is currently only better in showing things that don't move a lot according to non-VDP.. Tongue

If, hardware-wise, you compare the MSX1 with the C64, the C64 wins bigtime. If you add the MSX2 and newer models in, it turns out differently, but is that a fair comparison?

Like, the Amiga kicks the ass of any MSX, hardware-wise, but is that a fair comparison?

Even the c64-msx2 comparison is tricky tho. Have a look at some C64 demos first Tongue
