Yes I read that too. However I never saw that in action. And since it has to pass through the same diskrom it sounds really silly to me. I could verify cuz I still have the old diskrom of my 8235.
If I disable the internal then the Philips will read the External floppy on boot and play the games? In this case the Goteck with MSX DSk files.
You could set the internal drive's jumper to drive B: as well.
Anyhoo, personally I see no reason to keep the original drive in use at all. Disks are slow and today they're unreliable as they keep on failing. This is very comfortable:
For the life of me, something is wrong with the case, I cant open it, I removed all screws but it seems stuck in both sides in the middle.

PS: 20m later I figure this out, manage to open the MSX and no damage, I was able to remove the drive but, how do you change the internal drive to B, so it seeks the external?

That's correct. The case clicks together next to the two sliders on each side. Just put a small screw driver between the upper and lower parts of the case to gently unclick them. If you look carefully at the picture above, you'll see a tiny bit of damage to the lower part. That's the spot. There's a third one just below the spacebar, but that one usually comes apart by itself.

I don't recall the internal drive having a jumper. I have switched two wires of the large connector to do this. I'll have to lookup which pins they were, as I have done this about 25 years ago.
If you can I will thank you, I want to be able to use the Goteck Externaly because I use it on a lot of computers, and that way I can change the computer and use the some Goteck on them all.

Managed to make it work, my Second Goteck was a MSX configured one that I bought last year, it works OK with the regular cable while the Other Goteck did not.

Where did you get the gap filler from? I have a Gotek in my 8235 but I'm sick of the gap.
That's what my setup used to be. External double sided drive A: and internal single sided drive B:. I don't remember why I did it like this. Maybe I thought a two-drive system was cooler, even with the second drive being just single sided? Maybe I didn't want a white drive to be inside the 8235? Maybe I just didn't know how to connect the double sided drive to the internal 14-pin connector?
Anyway, I have just opened it again. I have switched pins 6 and 7. For reference, the thicker wire not part of the ribbon cable is pin 11. Pins 6 and 7 are the Drive select 0 and Drive select 1 signals.
You still need to replace the diskrom though, otherwise you can only use single sided disks. Diskrom replacement is easy on the 8235/00, as the ic is simply on a socket. For the 8235/20 it is a bit more work.
And funnily enough, to use single sided disks on the Gotek, you need to put a textfile FF.CFG on you usb drive with a line
host=msx

That damage indeed. The previous owner caused that by using a tiny screwdriver. If you want to avoid damage, better use a plastic prying tool. A plectrum or creditcard works a charm. It's not sharp and especially not narrow but wide. That will avoid those bitemarks.

That be, sorry, dunno the english name of this, but here you go. Just be sure to measure before buying. That huge old diskdrive leaves a huge gap to fil.

I've seen a guy put a gotek and a normal fdd in a 8250 and put a switch on both devices' jumper. That way the switch decides which is drive A: and which is drive B:. Great idea.

There are adapters for this cable. It's elegant and simple, yet sturdy

Now that's some great info. I find all kinds of info about gotek scattered allover the internet, but never seen a complete manual, yet this is the kind of info I appreciate a lot. Didn't know that. Now to make an A-A cable. Is it just a regular A-A cable? Pin 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and 4 to 4?
