Hey guys,

I found a strange web site recently appeared with a very interesting domain name "mitsumegatoo.ru". It has MSX game starting animation and music from the game and "Coming soon..." on the home page. Any ideas?

Maybe a translation of the game? Btw, I think the Famicom version of the game is much better (it was released three years after the MSX one): Mitsume Ga Tooru (FC)

They're pretty different types of games, though. The Famicom one is more of a straightforward platformer, while the MSX game is quite story-centric and has a lot of puzzle-solving and such. I've been saying for a while now that the MSX game is pretty good stuff, you just need to be able to read the text to really appreciate it.

Two curious things about this game (visit Mitsume Ga Tooru at Generation MSX)

  1. No MSX logo printed on the cover (only the MSX2 one) while it is an MSX1 compatible game and the cartridge label has both logos (with an "unofficial" 2 and 1 next to them)
  2. It is the last MegaROM ever released (1989) for MSX1 during the commercial era

The first one might be a marketing thing; perhaps they thought the game would sell more if they also prominently the MSX2 logo. Somehow it even looks like a last minute change; the alignment/ centering seems a bit off on the spine...

Number 2 might be the reason for 1...

As per this page, the actual release date for that game was 20 of April 1989.

Very good finding, apparently centering of the logo on the spine looks a bit shifted.

Yeah, even the Famicom version has decent graphics and music (it was one of the latest games on Famicom), the game story seems to be truncated. There are only short text messages in Japanese during cut-scenes between the levels. MSX game is a way different. It has lots of text and seems to have a very rich and mysterious story behind it. And music is great. Apparently that game deserved to have a very good translation.
