WIP. Where Is it ? New MSX1 game

Hi MSX friends,

Here is the game I would like to present to you. It's called "Where Is it ? The Quest For The 10th Island" for the complete title.

I'm working on it since the 1st of january 2021 and it's also the begining of my MSX dev story. As you imagine, I'm still in learning process
Concerning Wii?, it's a game I've done for the colecovision (which now is in test mode)

I want to know if it's possible for you to test it on different MSX configurations to know his compatibility, if there are issues (glitches, bugs, etc...) or not for presenting it in this MSXDEV'21 competition

This version is only 3 levels (arcade or story mode)

You can test it with these control configurations
- keyboard : ARROWS for the directions, SPACE for action and ESC for pause
- Joystick with one Fire : stick for directions / action and ESC for pause
- Joystick with two Fires : stick for directions, Fire1 for action and Fire2 for pause (I've tested it with an amstrad gx4000 stick and it's ok)

The game is a 32ko ROM written using SDCC and some Z80 assembly bytes

At the moment, I test it under Meisei/Catapult-openMSX

ToDo :
bug hunting : a sound does not always play while I should hear it !!! I suppose it's when two sounds were played at the same time

Looks very stylish!!! I really like the narrow font that allows for a lot of text in the screen (instead of the usual 8x8 fonts)!! Great job!

How are you planning on scaling the difficulty of the game? are you considering starting with smaller grids and bit by bit scale to this maximum size? or will it always be this size?

Concerning difficulty, there are 4 levels : Easy- Normal - Hard and Mix.
In Story Mode, for the LAST level, every figures/squares are... white and the timer is a little bit faster every levels
As it is my first game in C for coleco/msx, this game is 'simple'. So nothing more than a 3x3 square pattern
Maybe I'll add new difficulties/options/features in a wii? 2 If you had some ideas ...

I had the time only to complete the 1st level. I like your game, I'll test it for you in the upcoming days on Philips VG8020 (msx1) and Philips VG8235 (msx 2).

About sound playing; set a priority for them, so if a higher priority sfx is already started a lower one can't be played

You're probably using Chrome? Chrome does not show mixed content anymore. msx.org is https and the images are hosted on http.
If you want to see the pictures, try firefox (for now), or press quote on the posts and copy the URLs out of it.

I tried it on a real Sony F1XDJ 2+ and a TurboR ST, and on both during the intro there is a continuous white noise from the PSG, which continues at a lower volume during the menu and game. The sound effects do work.

For the intro sound bug, on meisei everything is good. on emulicious, I have this sound...
