If you are into the system due to nostalgia, and you'd never experienced the MSX2 back then (my first cpu was an MSX(1), then a PC), why I must love MSX2 gaming? MSX2 is cool, yeah, but MSX2 games have nothing to do with the games I'd played back then. It is something like forcing a NES freak to love the SNES too, just for the fact it is the evolution of it, although he never played SNES games... I love the MSX, but that does not imply I have to love MSX2 games too.

and oh joy they play msx 1 games as well!
LOL, in fact I just play MSX(1) games with my MSX2 LOL!LOL!

Just my 30 euros

just don't understand why people still bother having an msx1, with cassette players (tediously long loading times) where msx2's are easily available to the whole world, since there's ebay and plenty of people selling them here. Instead of whoring out (pimping) an msx1 with CF card readers and what not, wouldn't it be 10 times easier just to invest 30 euros for an msx2 with diskdrive ? and oh joy they play msx 1 games as well !
I guess what you get now is that the msx2 becomes an obsolete piece of hardware, because there are people that are too damn stubborn to get a proper msx 2 and rather enjoy a whopping 16 colour palette. And yes, the msx 2 is still as much of a retro computer as the msx 1

Maybe people still bother to have an MSX1 because they like it!... And about cassettes: There are some MSX2 without disk drive, like my beloved Sony HB-F9S, which you need a casstte player to load the games, as I use to do... to play the MSX1 games.Tongue (like viejo_archivero does!)

That's exactly what I wanted to say.

2nd) a real quickdiskdrive !!!
3rd) a datarecorder
4th) some BASF tapes ?

I must agree with you, msx is a standard that evolved in years (1,2,2+,TR). A lot of people see msx only as msx1, that of course is a bit limiting. It's as now, on moderns pc software only work to be compatible with a old 8088 with cga card and two floppies. Why in the hell, i need a modern pentium with tons on ram if i only use the first MB? I will stay to a PC/XT with the trusty 8088.! Question

The problem is that limiting the dev to the only msx1 cut down the possibility to make games that run on msx2, or 2+ or TR. Simply because a game is not possible on msx1, this does not mean that a convertion could not be tryed on newer msx generations.

Actually, if a game *is* possible on MSX2+ no one do it because there is no msxdev. So a developer abort the idea and the game does not see the light.

A SNES doesn't directly allow you to play NES games too...

viejo_archivero description is really what I feel too. Sure MSX2 is a nice architecture and it has some good games, but I chose Atari ST instead of MSX2 when I needed something better than MSX1 so I have no attachments at all with MSX2. And because a Yamaha CX5M was my first computer is probably why I'm much more emotionally attached to MSX1 than any other system.

Well, pity msx 2's weren't so widespread elsewhere as here in Holland.

Again i see that people think about msx generations as different architectures, (different computers, like zx spactrum, amstrad cpc, commodore c64) instead of the same that evolved.

this generate a kind of 'rivality' between owners or estimators of specific generation.
MSXDEV expresses this thought, by limiting the specs only on msx1
