As you know, some years ago was released a non official version of ZANAC EX which used MUSIC MODULE (OPL1) music thanks to a patch done by SOLID

Do you know if there is any project or idea to do the same in games such of OUTRUN (MSX2), Fantasy Zone 2, Arkanoid, etc, etc... that were released for MSX 2 but didn't use FM Music? I'm able to compose music for Moonblaster and Music Module, for example...

It might be me, but I think I like the original PSG sound better Tongue Especially in the introscreen the sound is just weird (at least to me).

OTOH: such projects are pretty cool Smile I love enhanced versions of old games.

Ofcourse I think this is a *very* cool idea, but I'm afraid Moonblaster far from suffices to arrange a great deal of given PSG tunes.

Bdd(Impact) has made a nice tune of Outrun on the Impact musicdisk3. This is msx audio, don't know how it sounds on msx-music.

Well, I don't mind MSX AUDIO (I love it Big smile ) or MSX MUSIC Big smile, although most of users have MSX MUSIC

a couple of months I made a script for openMSX that lets you turn PSG tunes into SCC

I think he means inserting new tunes and a new player into an existing game. I dunno whether that's actually possible.. I had a similar idea years 'n years ago.

I guess the method used by the programmers varies from game to game.
For instance, a certain (small) deal of games use the pure 'interrupt' cycle clock as a 'coathanger' for the music data.
In that case, you're probably screwed.

Another example, I'm almost 100% certain that a game like the MSX version of Hydlide simply uses the equivalent of the BASIC 'sound' commando to directly send tone data to the PSG channel(s).

Of course it is possible! It is exactly what Knightmare-CD/Knightmare Gold does Wink
On Coleco/SG-1000 convertions it is even worse, because it "translates" the music from a different chip to PSG. on the fly.. so "replacing" the original player/songs are possible.

The deal is to find (and understand) the player routine in the code, kill it and replace it with your own. Not easy for sure, but possible Smile

Problems may arise when it turns out that with the PSG version the CPU was already pushed to its limits, and what about RAM addressing space? A lot of work for sure, but it may indeed be possible. Who's to take on such undertakings? I'd say there's a number of Konami MegaROMs I'd like to see with SCC music.
