Or Daniel Vik and Vincent van Dam are the best demo creators for those systems ;p
You're comparing apples and oranges, really. If a demo effect looks cool on an MSX it's usually a trick. Games are less suitable for tricks as the user has to interact with it.
And no, the C64 can do quite a few things the MSX can't. So far, I've yet to see this on any genuine MSX (no tweaked 1cM or something) using any video chip, without being plain video, or what about this! There are no doubt tricks being used in C64 demos as well, but at least the C64 videochip offers more bang for your buck.
What makes demos like Bold different compared to late 80's and early 90's MSX demos (MSX2 usually) was the efforts being put into screen effects. Decades ago a demo was typically a single effect with a lousy boring scrolltext (with cheesy greetings and anti-greetings) and a tune which is not in sync with the screen action (the latter is still rare btw). These new demos are multi-part, and a whole lot more effects will have to be coded.
many times msx 1 games was ports of zx spectrum games, i mean why programmers didn't use all the power of msx 1?
Two reasons:
1 - Lack of information.
2 - Since MSX games didn't sell too well (due to smaller userbase, and users' preference for imported cartridge games), programmers were paid very little and given too little time to port games to MSX, so a fast port from the Spectrum version was all that they could do (of course this resulted in low quality, increasing the preference for japan imports, lower sales, etc...).
Why is it, btw, that all those youtube movies about demos are ALWAYS slow... ?

I wonder how much of that is pre-rendered.
Speaking of demos, in the 'weekend' of Apr, 29th - May, 2nd 2010 there'll be another Outline Demoparty. Would be nice to see some more MSX demos entering the various compos! Discomeats/Boblet joined last year with a weird WILD compo entry.
Hopefully the various compos will be announced soon. I'll submit a newspost when the new Outline website is up.
FiXato, will you be at Nijmegen?
DemonSeed, EVERYONE is going to be at Nijmegen
