Thanks for the reply!
The "auto skip firmware" feature works only on those models.
I have added the Yamaha AX350 II.
Thank you very much. It worked perfectly on my machine! You are too kind! Also, you saved me having to ram-upgrade the MFR, in order to get rid of holding all those keys on boot. Wonderful!
I can confirm firmware skip works on real MB-H3
Great! Thank you both for testing.
Hello, a user made a mistake pressing F3 and deleted the ROM-Disk.
Now he's attempting to reinstall the ROM-Disk but the only thing he receive from the MFR is "sd init error".
He can access the CursorUP-menu but each option returns "sd init error".
The same SD was used successfully in the past days before the ROM-Disk erasure.
Now he is trying to re-format the SD again and again but with no success.
I suggested him to format with FAT of Windows, and then format again with CALL FDISK (to be sure of the right format) but this command is not available in Basic.
To me is very difficult to operate from remote and so I kindly ask to Guillian what to do recover the MFR from the "sd init error". Thankyou in advance.
You can try to write the recovery SD image, which is now on guillian ‘s site, to the SD card and reinstall the kernel from the recovery menu.

Restoring the ROM Disk is easy. Just follow thise steps:
- Download: https://msxcartridgeshop.com/bin/files.zip
- Unpack it and copy the files on the root of your SD card
- Put the card in the cartridge and switch on your computer
- Nextor (operative system) should boot and you will get a "A>" prompt
- Type in the command line:
OPFXSD ROMDISK.DSK /id
and press RETURN
That will reinstall ROM Disk (drive A: )
But the "SD init error" does not seem related to the ROM Disk. That is probably a problem in the SD card or SD slot.
Now he is trying to re-format the SD again and again but with no success.
I suggested him to format with FAT of Windows, and then format again with CALL FDISK (to be sure of the right format) but this command is not available in Basic.
If the CALL FDISK is not available in BASIC, then probably he also erased the Nextor kernel. In this case, he will need to reinstall Nextor before the ROM disk.
The easier way is to follow the recovery steps:
- Copy to an *EMPTY* SD card the file KERNEL.DAT. It is recommended to format the card using your MSX.
https://www.msxcartridgeshop.com/bin/kernel.zip
- Enter recovery mode (holding cursor up while booting)
- Select F4 option. The recovery process should take a few seconds.
But again, if he is getting a "SD init error", he will not be able to read any data from the SD card.
Check another SD card. If he gets the same error, check if there is something in the SD slot (e.g.: a small sticker used in some SD cards).
Also, the SD slot could be damaged, or a solder point broken. In that case, the cartridge needs to be repaired.
Thankyou Guillan, the problem was on the slot number 1, and user was able to recover cart from the other slot. Now he is planning to recover the slot by himself.
I have a problem with MFR SD and a 2nd external floppy disk drive connected in any slot.
My MSX is a Philips NMS 8245 with the internal floppy drive not working.
When I use the external floppy drive *alone*, without the MFR, it works good.
Whe I insert the MFR into slot1/slot2, and launch any command like FILES, SAVE, etc. the floppy drive enters in a loop with a bad sound "kkreeck, kkreeck" and I cannot do anything...
Is there a configuration of MFR that can be used in combination with an external floppy drive?
I'd like to to setup a realiable MSX workstation to preserve floppy drives to DSK
what do you recommend for a new user of these cartridges? From what has been reported so far, the MegaFlashRoom has fewer compatibility problems with software and easier to use, while the Carnivore2 has more available ram and FM pack but has problems with some games and software. Is it there? Which one do you recommend? thank you
