Yes, that's right. I checked it with Fukenko and it is not the MSX version, but the PC-6001.
I can see in the decoded data CLEAR 50,&HEFFF, CLEAR 200,&HD18F, LINE? (145,50),3,BF, etc.

Yes. Strangely, while comparing it with a working tape version, I realized something:

It's hard to say (could be just be a side effect from corruption) but the reference to PC-6001 seems to have been removed? @tiny_yarou and me went through completely different paths with the same result, too.

Thing is, in order to replicate this, someone would have needed to load the original tape on a machine/emulator, change the line, then save the audio again. And the only reason why anyone would have to worry about that is if that string would be readable/accessible somewhere in-game?

amazing work, guys... amazing!

things that keep bothering me: there is a clear link between MSX and Metal Gear. In the cutscene the tape is even being loaded into an MSX computer.

Could it be something just as simple that they did not find an MSX tape to use in the game and then decided to remove the reference to PC-6001 from the listing so that most people would simply assume it's a listing that works on MSX?

My guess is that the "PC-6001" string was removed and it is not related to corruption.
If it was related to corruption, probably some weird characters should be shown.
Also, the asterisks could be misplaced, but they are perfectly located.

I don't think the string is accesible in the game. In that case it should decode the audio file that was mixed with music in a video (IIRC). From a programmer point of view, that is more complex that just store the needed binary data.
I don't know why they removed the string but perhaps they tought "What if a retro-fan decode the signal and finds we are loading a PC-6001 tape on an MSX2 computer?" (^_^!)

One thing more, this tape is supposed to be named "VOL1", and the tape from MGS GZ was VOL2. So probably they used another fragment/part of the game in that case.

Joke: So OPERATION INTRUDE N313 is Portopia serial murder game? XD

Is there a full decoded MSX data for both GZ and TPP data somewhere that we can look at? Or methods on how to convert the audio data to the binary?

A hidden PC-6001 cassette data fragment loading in an MSX2 Sony HB-F1 computer in a Metal Gear 5 cutscene... What a mess!! Why not an original MSX data!! It has no sense... Evil

I think we might be playing the game in a way they had not anticipated Smile.

Kojima has stated Portopia was the game that got him interested in making games, so it's intentional to a point.

Since MGS has a tendency for real-life gimmicks, maybe something happens if you get a working copy of Portopia into the tape player?

Probably they could not get the MSX version of Portopia to include it in the game.
That's why Snake gets angry and hits the mirror in the cut scene. Because the PC-6001 tape does not load in his MSX2 computer. XD
