@Louthrax
Link does not work
Correction: It does now
And Xak is one of these games that can be entirely played with joypad / joystick (even changing disc). Check the SofaRunIt documentation, there's also a video showing that for SD Snatcher. A standard 2 buttons joystick is enough (no JoyMega required).
Is the patch for the english version or for both?
Tested on the Japanese version here. Should work on English version if the translation code does not use the same memory area as my "FM-PAC delayed" routine.
Ok, I patched the english one. How to check whether your patch is applied right? Music sounds fine in R800 mode although I didn't try before the patch
Btw, did you see my earlier message about Illusion City hanging when choosing MIDI? You have any idea what to do about that?
Thanks, Louthrax, that's really awesome! It works like a charm: beautiful sound and the scrolling is nice and fast. Thanks!
To be safe I made the disks from scratch. I patched the original Japanese disks with the DeltaSoft patch from msxtranslations.com (I think they modified them a tiny bit), then concatenated the three DSK images on my MSX and patched that concatenated DSK image with Louthrax's patch. Then I just ran it with SofaRun.
Well, launch the game on a real turboR Be sure to be in R800 mode if using SofaRun, and check if the music sounds the same as in Z80 mode or as on a non-turbo machine.
Note: I realize I did not put code to activate R800 mode in this patch (I'm almost always using SofaRun & disk images), so if you make real discs with this patch, they will boot in normal Z80 mode. I'll update the patch for this later...
I did the patch for Xak last week, the game is really better on turboR, but I lost my change since then Not very hard to redo, I'll let you know when I'll have something
Woooooooow!!! Amazing!!! I will try the ips patch tomorrow!!! Thank you very much for your fantastic work!
Somehow I can't get SD Snatcher to start from SofaRun. I have Project Melancholia patched disks, named .FD1 - .FD3. They work with SCC+ and everything when I start them from MM (on a MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD 512K) and by holding SHIFT while booting.
I've concatenated them to one DSK image, and when I start that from SofaRun the Project Melancholia screen comes up. I can select OFF/PSG/SCC/SCC+ and that works right, and it shows my turboR passing the RAM test. When I start the game, the screen turns black, the caps lock LED turns on and then the MSX locks up. I've tried again with my 1MB memory mapper in the second cartridge slot, but that doesn't help. Any help?

That's where experience from previous bug reports could be helpful: try to press the [4] key at boot time. Your turboR will use the 512KB MFRSCC+SD RAM as main RAM (the 256KB internal RAM is not enough, project Melancholia uses 64KB extra segmented memory, and SofaRunIt also uses some segments...). Let me know if that works.
