Wow, for that amount (331.000 yen) I have 2 Turbo-R's (one boxed) and a lot of additional hardware! Wink
I hope the buyer will not sell it again as I don't know if people will pay this amount again... probably it's a collector and not an user. Too bad not using it... Just be glad you didn't buy it, as you also had to pay import duties Question

It could also be a speculator. Think about it: at least two people wanted it badly enough to bid 330,000 yen. Save the photos, because if this was a speculator then we may see this machine again in an auction somewhere with a starting price higher than what he paid today.

Personally, I really hope the machine went to someone who will actually use it.

Agree, but to keep it in mint condition it's better to do not. Otherwise I will loose it's value due to signs of use...

I don't care. For me the value is in actually using the machine, not keeping it gathering dust in somebody's collection.

When my Turbo R dies, I won't have a backup. Shocked! I'll have to try and repair it myself or with a friend's help.

Though if it really were to truly die and not be something that could be repaired, wasn't someone here SD-SNATCHER perhaps that was talking about the need of sacrificing a R800 chip in order to fully tear it down to see how it was made? In that process we could finally see how an R800 chip was put together and perhaps it could then be duplicated in other MSX projects such as MSX ARM or the latest version of a 1-Chip MSX.

Yes, while that's true, this could certainly be useful for projects that require or benefit from the R800's extra processing power such as the GFX9000 and the SMS emulation through the PlaySoniq. Also, it would encourage development of new R800 compatible games or tweaks to existing software to support R800 such as the Woomb version of Xak I now having a "TurboR Mode".

True. However, a turbo R is a really nice machine to have if you're doing development. I love my HB-F1XDmk2 (in my opinion the best body design on an MSX), but I would poke my eyes out with rusty spoons if I had to compile MSX-C programs on it. :-)

Yes, and if you find a Turbo-R, you don't have to do much modifications anymore like 2+ / turbo / RAM / DOS2 and MSX-MUSIC but probably only the powersupply and optional beltless drive. So, the mainboard looks very neat without extra wires Smile
