Actually I have a SM-X, and, if my mom/sis didn't sell it, I should have a Gradient Expert 1.1 as well (but I highly doubt it still is there). As I have no much room were I live, I'm reserving the "real MSX" space because I really wish to have a Turbo-R, but, it is not feasible at this moment. The average cost in our currency is about R$4000 to R$5000, which in USD (1137) or EUR (1055) should be pretty much "reasonable" as it is quite unique and not much machines are for sale, but, also, think that in terms of what this money can do in my country is about the same thing an American will do with $2500, which is surely too much money to put into a hobby for my current paycheck. I have only two MSXs. My first, an Expert 1.1 Gradiente, bought in 1987 and still working perfectly, and a Sony HB-F1 II.

Also just two:

  • Mitsubishi ML-FX1 - my first, bought in the late eighties, now booting Nextor from a Carnivore2!
  • Philips VG8235 - I think I bought this on a fair in Tilburg in the nineties or early noughts. It has 1MB RAM (even reports that in the boot animation), a 7Mhz accelerator switch, added analogue A/V output and its SD drive was replaced with a DD drive.

About that boot animation: I remember being told that normally the RAM figures shown during the boot animation are just hard coded numbers and no real measurements, so he was quite pleased he changed that into the 1024KB that is in the machine. However, when I boot the machine now using a GR8NET, it in fact reports 4096KB which, even with the extra GR8NET RAM, isn't right.

The MSX's I currently own:

  • Canon V-20
  • Mitsubishi MLF-80
  • Philips VG-8020 (x2)
  • Sony HitBit HB-55-P
  • Sony HitBit HB-75-P
  • Sony HitBit HB-501P
  • Toshiba HX-10
  • Yamaha CX5M

  • Panasonic A1-F
  • Philips NMS-8220
  • Philips NMS-8245 (x3)
  • Philips NMS-8250 (x2)
  • Philips VG-8230

Why? MSX is what I grew up with and it has always been a part of my life and it always will be.

I have to update it slightly:

  • Sony HB-F75 - new
  • Sony HB-F700D
  • Philips NMS 8250 (upgraded to 2+) - new
  • Panasonic FS-A1GT MSX Turbo-R - new

Because I love the MSX systems and I still love to play games and do some light development on them.
I don't want any more systems, now I am satisfied and I use them all. Smile

Sold all my stuff some time ago, but started to regret it.

I used to have a OCM and a VG8235 with 7mhz and double sided diskdrive.

Now I just bought a humble Sony HB-75P and am playing with cas2wav, microwaver and caslink2.

So things change over the years...
Now I have:

  • Philips NMS8245 upgraded to MSX2+ and a gotek drive.
  • Philips NMS8250 upgraded to MSX2+, 7mhz, a floppy drive and a gotek drive.

Which reminds me, I still have to install the oled 128x32 displays in the goteks... It's been over a year since I got those... Question

I have:

MSX - GoldStar FC-200
MSX - Philips VG-8010
MSX - Philips VG-8020
MSX2 - Philips VG-8235
MSX2+ Panasonic FS-A1WS
MSX2+ Panasonic FS-A1WSX
MSX2+ Panasonic FS-A1WSX

I had the MSX 1 and they looked bad because I could only get some select tapes of bad games, but them when I saw the games the comunity were releasing and investigated further, I just had to buy more, I bought the FPGA but nothing beats the fell of the original machine.
