I have adjusted GenMSX, it no longer claims it is an adult game. And it was undoubtedly set to Adult due to the publishers other works, and the fact that the images show scantily dressed females in suggestive poses.

p.s. since you now have the game, perhaps you could do a scan of the manual ;-) Also, the box shots we have on GenMSX are rather low-res. Too low to "read" the Japanese text (read for me means, let google image translate do the work ;-) )

There's actually full-frontal nudity in the game, so it kind of IS adult -- no sex, but you definitely see nipples and even pubic regions on some of the defeated bosses as you progress (and said bosses turn into cute anime girls when you defeat them), so it's pretty borderline. By modern standards, it would be rated M for Mature by the ESRB here in the U.S. -- not AO for Adults Only, since there's no actual sex -- but back in its day, it would definitely have been classified as an adult title.

As for the manual, I can try to scan it for you at some point. I'm moving to Japan in about 2 months, though, and have most of my MSX games packed up in boxes to eventually be sent to me there -- but I was considering busting some of them open anyway to play around with some of the games before I go, so I can look for that one when I do.

Incidentally, I may have a few other game manuals I could scan for you. I haven't checked, for example, but I'm willing to bet you don't have scans of any material from SystemSoft's "Robo Crush" on your site -- but I have a near-mint copy of that game I snagged off of eBay a few months back that I'm playing through now, and holy hell is that a bizarre yet amazing game. Hi Tom,

No indeed, we don't have the manual for Robo Crush either. And the box shots are also too low res to have google translate do a proper job :-) Looking at the images, it does seem like an interesting game.

Apparently DJANGO did a translation of it at some point, but I don't see it listed on his site (http://www.django.fr.sitew.com)

Ohh and it is not "my site", I just do some maintenance work updating of the entries and such.

Both Shenan Dragon and especially Robo Crush have such good and involved stories (and in Robo Crush's case, superb and surprisingly cynical/sarcastic writing), a quick-and-dirty translation really wouldn't do them justice, I don't think -- no offense! Those games need full, proper, extensive translation jobs sometime. Once I'm settled in Japan, they're at the top of my list for games I'd like to take a month or two to properly fan-translate, if I can find technical assistance -- along with games like Mitsume ga Tooru, Rune Worth, La Valeur, and the first War of the Dead (which I'd like to go beyond just fan-translating, also adding to the dialogue in order to give players more of an indication where they're supposed to go or what they're supposed to do next, since the complete lack of communication in the text is far and away that game's biggest flaw; it's almost impossible to successfully play through without a guide).

I'm glad to see there's interest in Shenan Dragon, though, and glad to hear people are even familiar enough with Robo Crush TO have partially fan-translated it. I have the Robo Crush manuals easily accessible, as I took them out of the box before packing it away so I could reference them while playing, so I'll see about scanning those sometime very soon. Meanwhile, when I can, I'll try to dig through the boxes I packed up and find the boxes for both games so I can get proper scans of them -- not just for GenMSX, but for the sake of game preservation in general, since these are the types of games that could easily slip through the cracks and be forgotten otherwise, which would be a crying shame when they're both so interesting and creative.

OK, first time I've ever tried scanning a box and manual at high quality, so hopefully these are OK. I've uploaded everything to Imgur for quick viewing:

https://imgur.com/gallery/vxfteXY

And also uploaded the whole set of images as super hi-res JPGs (the compression doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of difference at 600dpi) to Sendspace:

https://www.sendspace.com/file/rtpdex

I'll do the same for Robo Crush soon, though that game has TWO manuals, and they're both considerably bigger than Shenan Dragon's, so that one will take a bit longer.

Still, good to have figured out how to use the flatbed scanner now! I look forward to contributing more stuff to the MSX scene in the future, as I'm able.

Enjoy!
