SD Snatcher with a Carnivore 2

Hi, everybody! My buddy just brought me an MSX 2 from Japan, and I've decided to join to learn and discuss!

I do have a question though, and if anyone can help out a noob, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a Carnivore 2 to play SD Snatcher. It boots fine using SofaRun, but I can't get any farther than the "Insert Sound Cartridge" error. I know the Carnivore 2 can emulate the Konami sound expansions. Does anyone have any advice on getting this to work?

Your best bet is to google around for another set of dsk files since yours has not been hacked.
I'm not sure if the carnivore 2 emulates the sound cartridge. It certainly emulates the musical capabilities of that cartridge, but the sound cartridge is more than just that. There's ram in there as well. SD Snatcher expects that ram to be at an exact spot. And that's where I think carnivore 2 does not emulate the sound cartridge.
There are enough english translated and well hacked versions around so you'll certainly find it.

afaik carnivore2 can be put into SCC+ mode (the sound cartridge) but then you will lose all other functionality (SD card/ram etc)

I’ve found a lot of the stuff in the documentation online esoteric and confusing. Its required a lot of experimentation to get this far. I guess I’ll keep looking though.

In perusing the carnivore 2 manual it indicates that c2 itself can function as the scc+ cartridge, but you need to boot the game from another ide device...that means I would need a second carnivore2 to boot the game from? Again, any assistance here would be humbly appreciated.

And this is why I have a MegaFlashRom SCC+ SD + 512Kb Mem mapper cart.

There are (hacked) SCC disk versions out there - you just won't have as good as a sound on SCC channel 5... but it's not the end of the world.

While we’re on the topic of sound modules...anybody try to play new devil golvellius with one of these? It’s mostly silent for me. Do you use a second carnivore/megaflashrom in fm-pac mode or something to make it work?

I always played a cracked version of the game with SCC instead of SCC+ when I was little, and although there are some differences here and there in terms of the instrumentation (due to channel 4 & 5 sharing the same waveform on the SCC) they’re surprisingly minor. So an SCC+ is definitely not a must to enjoy the game and its great music.
