Moon Light Saga by Maple Yard for free download

We received wonderful news today:
Ealia, the original developer has agreed on the free download of this TurboR game.

This is the English quick guide written by forum member Takamichi.

Features

MSXturboR only
MSX-Music
Supports MSX-MIDI and MIDI IF-3
Can save to Panasonic PAC and FM-PAC
HDD installable; only with EJ MSX-IDE
Supports up to 4 MB external memory expansions to decrease disk accesses
Smooth multidirectional scroll

Controls
Joystick or cursor keys

Move Luca (or the spirit)
Move cursor within the main window

A button or GRAPH key

Hold it down to move the spirit instead of Luca
Push twice in a row to open the Mega Magic menu
Choose a Mega Magic
Choose an item in the main window
Proceed a conversation

B button or SPACE key

Fire a normal bullet
Quit the Mega Magic menu
Close the main window
Hold down to fast read the messages

A + B, GRAPH + SPACE combination or ESC key

Open the main windows

How to start

Boot the MSX with the System disk in the drive.
Wait until the opening demo ends or push a key.
Choose "Begin to play M.L.S." then hit B button or SPACE key.
Swap disks as instructed.

I LOVE THIS GAME, I LOVE TAKAMICHI!
can someone help me install it in hdd?
I can extract the files from MLSYS.DSK but mls2.dsk and mls1.dsk I can't see them
I use a megaflashrom of pazos

Oh what the, I did NOT post this headline and obviously I did not write the line between "We received" and "member Takamichi." I can guess "by Takamichi" was credited because this headline was nested from my Download post, but the guy who REALLY posted this article, put your hand up LOL!

"MIDI IF3" I mentioned in the quick guide and I had no idea back then is a homebrew Mu-pack clone in here. Look for MIDI3IF.LZH. I better update the quick guide, is there anyway I can update something I already uploaded?

@erpirao: Running the disk images from Sofarun might work, though I never tried.

If you are referring to the Mu-pack clone, MIDI3IF.LZH archive contains the circuit diagrams and actual parts layout in SC5 format but no implementation procedure image. The document, MIDI3IF.DOC is full of line breaks that negate Google Translation so I deleted them and made a Google Translation friendly version Wetransfer link

私はMoon light SagaのFM音源曲を担当していましたが、未だにMSXって生き残っていることに感動です。
フリーと言うことなのでエミュで起動してみました。　が、初めのボス？でゲームオーバー・・・
でもFM音源曲と言い、グラフィックと言い、学生時代が蘇りました。

一応、Google先生に部分的に手伝ってもらって、英語でも書きますが通じるのかな？

First of all thanks to Takamichi for contacting with Tsuchiya Akira, and thanks to Tsuchiya for let to share for free this great masterpiece for MSX turbo R. Hopefully the Takamichi's english translation can be adapted.

Hi Hideaki, MSX never died, maybe commercially speaking, but never for enthusiasts or fans of this machine.
It was a shame to see how japanese homebrew developers in the mid-90s stopped producing software for MSX. Great groups like M-kai (Kyokugen, Pleasure Hearts), Mar'z Project (Be-Bop Bout), Syntax or Maple Yard among many others.

I can't use my MSX because the FDD belt is broken, but I still have it without throwing it away (haha)

一介のMSXユーザーのタカミチと申す者です。御協力者の方にお会いできるとは光栄です。Ealiaさん（こうお呼びする方が当方には自然でして…）とは、英語版作成の件で協力したのですが色々困難があり立ち消えしてしまい、結果としてデータをバックアップさせて頂く形となり最終的にこのような結果で公開する許可を頂けて感謝しております。英語版の完成は未だに未知数ですが不可能ではないと信じております。また、洞窟のゴブリンボスには精霊の方を移動して弾を撃つのが効果的だったように思います。以上取り急ぎ失礼致しました。(Japanese to here)

Currently playing it on my real turboR, and also with real disks : the game can't be run with SofaRun because the system disk is MSX-DOS 2 based (SofaRunIt can only handle MSX-DOS 1 disks).

But from what I've seen, it should not be to hard to change the direct sector accesses to file accesses on HD. And I'm pretty sure someone known for his other HD-conversions here is already thinking about that

(another way could be to change the MSX-DOS 2 files access functions in system disk to MSX-DOS 1 and boot with SofaRun, but I think I prefer the first option).

ボス戦攻略、試してみます。

このサイトってレスポンスが早いですね。Pacoさんって方から参加してほしいとメールを貰ったことはあったんですが
基本的に英語サイトなので読むのに時間がかかるので避けてましたww

私は土屋さんと言った方が馴染みがあるのですが、YouTubeにMLS曲をアップするのに使用曲とかボツ曲とか確認するのに
やり取りをしたことがあって、一曲だけMIDIから編曲したので上げてませんが、一応全曲をアップしてます。
MusicTrystって言う音楽DISKにも参加してますが、そちらの方も２～３曲くらい上げてるかな？

まさかMSXのコメントをする日が再び来るとは・・・。

Youtube の方拝見しました。実機よりかなり音質がいいですね！Music Trystは所持していますがどこに保存したか失念していて…と思ったらつべにアップロードして頂いてるんですね！早速ヘビーローテーションで聴かせて頂きます。(Japanese to here)
Disk2Rom is pretty useless because it works with only one disk image.
In case any of you is interested, MLS was compiled using Z80ASM.COM together with L80.COM, M80.COM that you might be familiar, and TXTDRV.COM which is probably Ealia's original.

I was trying to add it to MSXHub but I faced the same issue... unfortunately my MSX skills are not that great to be able to workaround it myself...

In many cases, it can be easily repaired by replacing the drive belt...
